More and more seige shields and more and more people went through the array, adding to the already intimidating sea of enemies Alterra was going against.
However, not once had Alterrans faltered. While many admittedly did show some heart towards the enemy elementalists, it was not enough to put their lives in danger.
The cannons continued to fire, the sentries continued to pierce, the arrows continued to rain, and elements continued to fly.
Every second, dozens of enemies would be hit. Even if they didn't die, their companions were unlikely to help them out, ultimately leaving them to their deaths.
Their focus was one thing: To get through the walls, no matter what. For slaves, it was an order; for others, it was for survival.
After all, there were a lot more hiding places within the territory walls and, to win the war, the defense was more likely to focus on keeping the people outside rather than hunting down those who had already gotten inside.
And so, about an hour after the beginning of the war, several tens of thousands of people pushed to enter, many of whom tried to jump over the walls using the siege shields.
The shields took time to destroy (considering the priority to attack was the people), and this fact was definitely maximized by Basset to guard their own skins.
In any case, the tense situations everywhere prevented many people from joining the hunt for the breaches.
Speaking of breaches, the men ran as fast as they could, passing through the various pathways without looking back.
They were among the last to escape through the streets. They shivered when they recalled the screams of the people behind them. It was obvious that reinforcements—strong ones—had arrived.
They did not dare to pause even for a second. Not only because they were afraid the enemy powerhouses would catch up to them, but also because they were being rained by arrows from the balconies.
Worse? The people hiding in their houses were damned noisy!!
"They're here! They're here!"
"GUARDS!"
"THE BUGS ARE HERE!"
"DOESN'T ANYONE OF YOU HAVE FLARES?!"
"NO! WE ONLY HAVE OUR MOUTHS!"
At this, many people yelled at the top of their lungs.
"HEEEEERRREEEE!" they screeched, and one would wonder if their throat went out with that scream.
The aborigines wanted to strangle them. So badly.
Weren't these bastards afraid of being targetted!?
That said, as much as they wanted to climb up those balconies and rip people's throats, they had a mission they had to prioritize.
The goal was to get to their assigned places and, if the opportunity had not yet arrived, then it was to find hiding places nearby those pertinent areas, waiting for their chance to strike.
However, as the seconds ticked by— as they passed street after street, as they took turn after turn—and the arrows still kept coming, panic slowly took root. "Orcshit—"
When are they gonna find a hiding place?
Did this place have eyes everywhere?!
Of course, they had the option of taking down the noisy bastards (which they truly wanted to do) and then taking over their homes to hide in them.
However, considering how monitored they were, it was only a matter of time before they'd be found.
There was also the option of entering a direct conflict with the guards in case that happened.
Perhaps, if it was an hour ago, they'd dare do this.
However, after getting mobbed by Alterrans earlier, they knew even the low-level ones were troublesome.
Even if they were twice the person's level, there was also a chance the person had good equipment and even protection charms!
In that case, those few seconds' delay could very well mean death when their powerhouses appeared.
First of all, were protection charms so easy to come by now? They knew they existed in Alterra (it was one of the things they were greedy for), but they came far and few in between, and distributed mostly through the contribution points store.
