Sammy arrived just in time to see dozens of enemies entering their wide easements, adding chaos to the already intense fight going on.
Because the levels of this group were high, they took a lot less effort to go over the walls than others. It felt like enemies were literally falling down from the wall every second or so.
They were all strong mercenaries and good fighters, and each one presented a challenge to them.
The Alterrans, with their shields out, would shower these people with attacks as soon as they were within reach. However, this was their first entry, so their equipment durability was still high, not to mention people their level had great stats and attributes, too.
These mercenaries defended themselves from their side's attacks, rushing to the streets and harshly countering anyone who got in their way.
They gave it their all with one attack, hoping to kill with one shot (which fortunately failed, for now, due to equipment and protection charms) and also to terrify the guards and prevent them from attacking.
Their goal was to get deep into the territory and find their targets, after all, not be stuck with these damned gouji fruits!
However, how could Alterra allow them get inside so easily? They made sure to make it hard for the enemies to break through.
The enemy's sharp attacks did not make the Alterran teams falter at all. It just made them even more guarded and more passionate, dedicated to keeping them at bay.
The Alterrans took up their shields, compressing their enemies to certain spots so they could stab at them behind their shields. However, the people who entered were powerhouses, most of whom were past level 25, some were even level 30.
As such, Alterrans teams—after being pushed and attacked—could only focus on a few at a time, keeping them at bay at least.
Sammy also positioned himself on the battlement, keeping himself at a relatively safe spot, assisting via his bow and arrow.
There were fights that would be dangerous to intervene—especially since the battle area was too dense with his own people—so he shifted his target to those trying to enter instead.
This way, there was a lesser chance of hitting his own teammate. Not to mention, he was close enough to make sure all his hits were accurate.
Apparently, this group used the siege shields as bolsters to jump over Alterra's five-meter walls. Sammy shot them down just as they jumped, regardless of whether they were outside or inside of the territory walls.
The best case was that they'd fall down even before entering the gates, though those usually would survive by virtue of their similar levels. Sammy could only hope those guys would be stepped on by their own allies.
As for those who had managed to enter, he shot them just as they were landing, so it would be difficult for them to deflect anything.
Their equipment might protect them from the lethality of his shots, but it was enough to imbalance a few and those people would then be dealt with by the Alterran guards and volunteers on the ground.
The archers nearby saw this and followed his lead. Although they could not completely stop the entries of dozens more people—it seemed like the enemy concentrated more than a hundred mid-level 20s in this area—they at least lowered down the numbers by a bit.
Alterrans past Level 20 handled an enemy on their own. Even if they were overpowered, the goal was to keep the enemies at bay until reinforcements arrived.
The enemy knew this, of course, and they also knew that—no matter how angry they were—it was not the time to enter a fight.
Vara, who was being pushed back by about a dozen Alterrans—some of whom were guest mercenaries past level 25—increased his attacks.
His equipment was all superior Class C rank so he was still uninjured for now, but if more people of this level attacked him, then his equipment could be compromised.
Worse, no matter how much he stabbed and pushed, someone else would take his place to be an obstacle.
