He had heard about what had happened during the previous war, and obviously, Alterra still had the confidence to make such bold moves with slaves back then.
Now that they were a legitimate Town, they could no longer do that.
It felt satisfying to pick down this arrogant territory by a notch.
That said, the vanguard slaves were locals. After all, they became a Town because they weren't idiots who'd send precious elementalists as meat shields.
Quite a few Terran territories had fallen during the past few months.
This meant that there were Elementalist Slaves scattered around this region, and there was even a subtle 'hunting' of them that had begun.
With his guidance, Basset Town, in fact, managed to secure hundreds of them.
Anyway, more and more aborigine territories had been closing in on the now-called 'Terran Region', a segmented place with territories of Terran origins, but were not necessarily working together or owned by Terrans anymore.
He remembered when he entered a partnership with Basset Town to improve his life. He even tried to gain leverage with his strategies to gain freedom—at least from the disgusting duties he had been thrust into—but he was beaten up instead.
In the end, he could only strike a deal to help him level up, and he had reached level 21 after the past couple of harsh trainings in a Town. This was already incredible progress, superior even to Alterra's more powerful guards. However, it was not enough for Fargo, who had been trying to catch up with Garan, though to no avail.
His eyes turned red as he watched his side reach the walls, and—as they expected—
BANG!!
Fargo's eyes darkened. The cannons are here!
But his eyes widened when he realized there were a few of them activated at the same time—and in all parts of the territory.
BANG!!
BANG!!
BANG!!
He watched as several people were smashed and exploded every time a black ball landed.
Fargo gritted his teeth. It seemed like Alterra made a lot more than they thought.
Fargo wanted to curse at the mere sight of cannons. It wasn't that he hadn't tried developing those things but after various experiments, the number of people who died in failed attempts became too much.
He succeeded with the crossbow after many weeks, even months, but the cannon was beyond his capability, even as a former terrorist lord.
Building the cannons—or even just creating gunpowder— was not as straightforward as one would think, even if they did know the previous methodologies. Even if one had extensive knowledge of weapons, they might still not succeed in Xeno, and this was what happened to Fargo.
It wasn't even limited to gunpowder; he also wanted to develop various poisons, other explosives, and so on. Not long after he gained a position, he hired various Terran experts to develop 'modern' things and forced them to create good weapons if they wanted to keep their lives.
At the time, he thought, Alterra didn't have all the experts!
However, even the expert pharmacists and chemists he hired ended up either exploding or poisoning themselves to death! Those useless idiots!
Even at this time, Fargo was blaming everyone else for these failures.
In fact, the cannons took time to develop even in Alterra. Experts like Jake, Brandon, Eugene, and Kimura all worked together to create the prototype and its current improved versions.
