“That’s none of your business,” Gregory uttered, leaving no room for argument.
Theo slowly curled his fingers into fists.
The atmosphere instantly turned tense.
Just before things could escalate any further, Adrian stepped in in time. “Enough. Now is not the time to argue about this. Let’s stick to the plan and deal with what’s on hand first.”
Only then did Theo avert his gaze, letting out a disgruntled snort. “You’d better handle everything properly!”
With that, he stormed off toward where the arsonists were being held.
Gregory said nothing as he boarded the helicopter to Castenea with Adrian.
Tomorrow would be a tough battle. He needed to keep his mind clear and free of all distractions.
Anathea wondered if men always broke their promises so easily once they made them.
Just like last time, Gregory said he’d come home early to eat birthday cake with her, but he had broken that promise too.
What was the reason this time?
She glanced at her phone. He had sent a message again, saying there was something important he had to handle. But as always, he never told her what it was.
Anaea put the phone down and looked out the window. The sunlight had already vanished beyond the horizon, and dusk had begun to settle over everything.
She looked down.
The feeling of being kept in the dark and not knowing anything wasn’t a good feeling.
Just then, Jenny bounced over to her. “Mrs. Sinclair, Bella made some desserts. They smell amazing. Come try them!” Jenny handed Anathea a pink macaron.
Only then did Anathea shift her attention. She took the macaron and took a bite. It was strawberry flavored, sweet but not cloying.
“It’s delicious.”
“There’s also a chocolate–flavored one. Come on, Mrs. Sinclair,” Bella said with anticipation.
Anathea nodded and decided to stop thinking about everything else for now.
“You’re so skilled in baking, Bella,” Jenny commented enviously. If I tried, everything would come out of the oven as a pile of black charcoal. There’s no way I could make something this pretty!‘
Bella looked a little embarrassed. “I just recently signed up for a pastry class and learned a bit, so I’m not that skilled yet.”
She then looked at Anathea. “Mrs. Sinclair, try this flavor. It tastes better.”
Anathea took a chocolate–flavored macaron and bit into it, enjoying the rich chocolate aroma.
Just then, Cyrus came over, carrying a pot of tea. “It’s not good to have such excessive sweets. Have some tea to balance it out.”
“When did you become so thoughtful, Cyrus?” Jenny asked, puzzled.
Usually, he was so stiff and formal. He only ever tried to curry favor with Gregory. Now, he even made tea for Anathea, which was surprising.
