But every time Anathea tried to let go, Gregory would always find an irresistible method to make his way back into her heart.
He was like a net cast wide and heavy, trapping her so tightly she couldn’t escape.
He had once been so cold to her, but now, he was relentless in his pursuit.
It was too drastic a shift. She didn’t think she could handle it.
“Gregory, I can’t tell if you’re saying all this on a whim or not. Yourlaim to want my heart now, but who’s to say you won’t toss it aside tomorrow and never look back?”
There was a lump in her throat.
“It takes a lot of courage to feel something for someone. I lost mine the moment I decided to let go of this marriage.”
After she said that, she looked at him with misty eyes.
This topic had inevitably touched the deepest, most painful part of her heart. Speaking of it just reopened the wound, forcing her to feel that pain all over again.
Gregory looked into her tear–brimmed eyes, his own feeling with sorrow and pain.
He reached out and gently wiped her tears away, saying softly, “Annie, you know I’ve never been one to do things without thinking them through. I don’t act on impulse. I meant everything said just now. I’m serious. I want to…. start over with you.”
Leaning in, Gregory cupped Anathea’s face tenderly in both hands, resting his forehead against hers.
It was ore intimate than a kiss–lingering, stirring, full of unspoken longing.
“You said you’ve lost your courage to feel something for someone. Then, let’s find it back together, okay?” he asked, voice tinged with emotion.
At such a close distance, Anathea could see Gregory’s eyes glistening with tears.
He wanted her answer. He longed for her response.
After a long silence, she sighed. “What if it takes a long time to find it back? What if it takes years or decades, or even until the end of this lifetime? Would you still want it?”
Would he be willing to wait for a hope so far away, with no end in sight?
“Yes.” Gregory nodded solemnly. “No matter how long it takes, as long as you’re willing to stay by my side, even until the very end of my life, I’m willing to find your courage back every step of the way.”
She agreed to let him accompany her through that journey. That itself was a sign of her feelings for him,
As long as she didn’t resist or run away, that was the best answer he could hope for.
When he drew closer, Anathea closed her eyes. This time, Gregory kissed her gently.
When two people truly belonged to each other, even just a kiss could bring incomparable satisfaction and joy.
That day, Gregory and Anathea finally settled into a peaceful harmony.
Gregory sat on the couch, reviewing documents, while Anathea stayed by his side, doing her own thing. Every now and then, he would reach out to caress her hair. Whenever Anathea glanced at hin, he couldn’t help but smile.
When her pregnancy caused her back pain, he would rest his hand on her lower back, massaging and soothing her.
The day passed by slower than before, yet it was all the more pleasant for it.
