The three of them set off from the foot of the mountain and were soon back in front of the Stone Forest.

The Northern Cavalry soldiers were resting when they spotted Jessica and Leon returning. They immediately started to rise to salute.

Jessica called out urgently, “Hold still! You’ve been trapped in the Stone Forest for days without food or water. You’re all exhausted. Don’t waste your energy.”

Leon gave a commanding wave, and the soldiers finally quieted down, all staring at them with solemn expressions.

Jessica swept her gaze across the faces of the soldiers, each with lips cracked from dehydration.

“Just ahead, there’s a small stream not far from here,” Jessica said decisively. “Leon, take them to get some water. Leanna and I will scout the area for food.”

The mountainside and the foothills were a treasure trove. Finding something to eat wasn’t hard, it just took some time.

At the news of a nearby stream, the soldiers instantly perked up.

A few more days without food were still bearable for everyone, but going without water was truly terrifying.

They were absolutely parched!

Leon frowned, looking down at Jessica, who stood a head shorter than him. “I’m coming with you.”

Seeing Jessica about to refuse again, Leon’s eyes darkened. He said firmly, “I’m deeply moved that you came, but if I had a choice, I would never have let you come here alone. So for now, don’t wander off by yourself. Stay with the group.”

They were in a desolate wilderness, unfamiliar with the terrain, with no way of knowing if assassins might still be lurking nearby.

The thunder grenades in their hands were devastatingly powerful, yet inherently dangerous.

“Let Leon come with us.” Leanna nodded gently, pulling out her waterskin and offering it to Leon. “Here, have some first.”

Leon didn’t refuse. Taking the waterskin with a brief “Thanks,” he tilted his head back and gulped down several large mouthfuls.

Then, Leon passed the waterskin to Magnus and Shawn.

One of the soldiers stepped forward and gave Leon a respectful/nod. “Your Highness, I’ll lead the men to the stream to rest for a while first.”

Leon gave a firm nod and set off with Jessica toward the mountainside.

Magnus and Shawn shadowed their every step.

Sure enough, there was no shortage of food on the mountain–wild greens and berries. In no time, they’d gathered a whole pile.

Magnus and Shawn made several trips to carry the food back to camp. When they returned, to their surprise, Leanna had managed to bring down a massive wild boar, while Jessica and Leon had also bagged plenty of game.

Finally, just before nightfall, the men resting by the stream got to savor their first bite of steaming hot meat.

When Shawn took his first bite of neat, he was nearly moved to tears. “If it weren’t for Ms. Yates, who knows when we’d get to eat meat again?”

Leon fixed his gaze on Jessica, a faint smile flickering in his eyes.

Leon remained silent, slowly savoring his food.
