Chapter 363
Chapter 363
Jessica said softly, “You need to take your men to the Stone Forest and ‘rescue‘ Prince Leon, who’s supposedly gravely injured.”
Elijah was utterly perplexed. “But Ms. Yates, didn’t you just say the news about Prince Leon being gravely injured was fake?”
Moreover, there was still no certainty whether the news of Leon being severely wounded was even true. Even if such rumors spread, perhaps as a play to lure them away, it could very well be the rebels‘ trap. Knowing it was a snare, how could they possibly abandon their post?
Jessica frowned slightly, clearly conflicted, and said, “If you don’t go rescue Prince Leon, how could those rebels possibly dare to invade Kabury County?”
Elijah immediately understood. ‘So that’s what she means.
But Elijah was still concerned. He said. “If I take my men to search for Prince Leon, who will protect the civilians in Kabury County when the rebels
attack?”
Kabury County did have soldiers, but not many.
What’s more, Jessica and Garbisch had previously crushed the rebels and cleared them from the Vrahmont Mount. The troops dispatched from other cities had since returned to their original posts.
Kabury County’s garrison now numbers fewer than a thousand soldiers.
If elite rebels attacked, they wouldn’t be able to hold the city.
Then, only the civilians in the city would suffer.
Though Elijah brought only a thousand soldiers, they were all elite troops who had followed Leon back from the Northern Borderlands. Each of these battle–hardened comrades could easily take on several enemies at once, holding their own against three, five, or even more without difficulty.
If they left, who would safeguard the lives of the people in the city?
“Ms. Yates, I fear those rebels might actually have thunder grenades,” Elijah said urgently. “If they do, Kabury County’s garrison won’t be able to hold the
city.”
Jessica analyzed, “This so–called base could very well be a makeshift one. If that’s the case, even if they have any thunder grenades, their supply must be quite limited.”
This thing was not suitable for mass production. It was extremely dangerous. Storage was also a major problem; if kept for too long, it could have detonated at any moment.
Jessica said, “Wasn’t the real reason the King sent Prince Leon here because a few thunder grenades showed up in Kabury County? Just two or three caused quite a stir. When people saw the rebels fleeing toward Vrahmont Mount, they assumed there must be a production site for thunder grenades
there.”
Jessica narrowed her eyes at the sand table. “Garbisch and I scouted these two sections of the Stone Forest last time. Prince Waldo was trapped in the first section, which is quite close to the second. I personally verified that.”
Jessica pointed at a spot on the sand table. “As for the third section, it’s a peculiar terrain. Once inside, you have to circle the mountain, and the exit actually ends up closer to Kabury County. The whole Stone Forest is littered with jagged rocks and overgrown thickets, no natural defenses, utterly uninhabitable, and certainly not suitable for craftsmen to produce thunder grenades.”
Elijah asked in shock, “Ms. Yates, you know how to make thunder grenades?”
