Jessica had predicted that the King would summon Garbisch to the palace the next day. True to her word, Andrew arrived early the following morning with the royal summons.

Garbisch only entered the Imperial Study after the King had concluded his morning court session.

All anyone knew was that Garbisch had spent over two hours in the Imperial Study with the King, but what exactly was discussed between them remained a mystery.

With a meeting that long, there’s no telling what all might have been discussed.

The news spread like wildfire through the palace walls and soon reached many ears beyond the court.

“Everyone thought Jessica and Garbisch would fade into obscurity after Garbisch was seriously wounded, but who would’ve guessed they’d steal the spotlight in just over a month?”

“They’re making such a spectacle of themselves. Aren’t they worried about making enemies in court? Ever since the Yates family lost Prince Waldo’s patronage, they’ve been left without any powerful protection.”

“Who says they don’t have anyone backing them? Prince Leon is their patron now.”

“Prince Leon can barely protect himself now.”

“Why would you say that?”

“Don’t you know? The Askar prince was attacked in the palace, and rumor has it that Consort Thalia’s family was involved. Prince Leon’s uncle was arrested on the spot, but he hasn’t faced charges yet. The King is just saving face for their family. Lately, Consort Thalia’s family has been under tight royal surveillance. “I wonder if Prince Leon will come back in one piece…”

Garbisch returned to the Yates House, his expression visibly troubled.

After meeting with the King today, Garbisch was kept busy with official duties outside the estate. It appeared the King had assigned him a new task, which occupied him until dusk before he finally returned home.

Upon returning, he remained tight–lipped. Even when Monica pressed him for details, he wouldn’t breathe a word about his conversation with the King.

Jessica instructed Monica to have dinner prepared and sent to the Luminous Pavilion.

Jessica said gently, “Princess Elsie hasn’t left her chambers all day, not even once. Garbisch, after you freshen up, please go personally invite her to join us for dinner.”

“Have her come out and join everyone for dinner?” Garbisch wondered. He had expected Jessica to press him about what the King had said, but she was always so thoughtful. Since he didn’t mention it/she didn’t ask a thing.

When the topic turned to Elsie, Garbisch looked a bit troubled. “I’m afraid Princess Elsie might not want to come out,” he said.

She had an eye injury and hadn’t begun treatment in the past two days. According to the doctors, treatment could only start once she was in a relaxed state of mind.
