Chapter 330
Jessica had never met a man as rascally as Leon. And to think, this guy was supposed to be a tough as nails general!
Monica soon brought light soup and side dishes, but Leon claimed he was too weak and just gazed at Jessica, making no move to eat,
With a resigned sigh, Jessica had Monica leave before picking up the plate and carefully spoon feeding Leon,
Jessica asked softly. “Still feeling unwell?”
“I’ll feel better if you feed me,” Leon rasped, though his hoarse voice made it clear he was still feeling awful.
It felt as it his blood had been scorched by venom. Enduring such rapid detoxification and forced clarity, most men would have broken under the agony.
Jessica gently spoon–fed him the soup. His thin lips were so parched and cracked that some spots had started to bleed, a clear sign of severe dehydration.
Though she’d already given him warm water, the symptoms wouldn’t subside immediately. Jessica felt a pang in her heart and said, “I’ve sent for Garbisch. Why don’t you just stay at the Yates residence and wait for Lincoln to come see you himself, instead of going back?”
Leon asked, “Worried about me?”
“Yes,” Jessica admitted. There was no point in denying it anyway.
Leon was momentarily stunned. She had actually admitted that she was worried about him. Suddenly, a warm surge welled up in his chest, so intense it left his heart tenderly aching.
For the first time, Leon thought, ‘So this is how it feels to be cared for.‘ Suddenly, being sick or injured didn’t seem so bad after all.

“Jessica, I’m exhausted,” Leon murmured, leaning weakly against the chair as he gazed at Jessica seated before him.
“I know,” Jessica murmured, gently lifting another spoonful to his lips. “Just focus on resting. Don’t trouble yourself with those bothersome officials.”
“Is it really alright for me to be this proud?” Leon asked, like a child seeking reassurance.
Jessica chuckled softly. “When have you ever lacked pride? If you suddenly turned humble, people might think you’re hiding something. You’ve done nothing wrong. Your integrity is beyond reproach. So why should you feel guilty?”
“Jessica, I like you so much.”
“Got it. Eat up. Patients shouldn’t talk too much, or it’ll slow your recovery.”
“But I really do like you,” he said. Before, it was an utterly pure affection, the kind a husband feels for his wife. But now, there’s something else mixed in too… almost like a child’s attachment to his mother.
With Jessica by his side, Leon found he could simply stop thinking.
How comforting it was for him to simply surrender to Jessica’s care without a second thought, especially when his body was wracked with such
discomfort.
“Jessica, promise me you’ll never turn against me, okay?”
Jessica lowered her gaze to the steaming soup, “Do you still blame me for standing against you before?”
“I don’t blame you, but I’m so anxious… I’m terrified it might happen again,” Leon said softly. He reached out, knowing her hands were busy, he didn’t try
to hold them, but instead clutched at the hem of her robe for comfort.
Just by clutching the hem of her clothes, he felt an inexplicable sense of security, as if she would never abandon him.
