Everyone was focused on Chandler, waiting to see how he would respond.
It was silent for a moment before Chandler slowly turned to Katie and said, "Ms. Terzian, there is no need to panic. Facts speak louder than words.
"I know what kind of a person you are, and I won't be influenced by others." His words were neutral, showing no favoritism toward either side.
Katie looked a bit flustered, but she still pretended to be gracious and smiled awkwardly at him. "Yes, time will reveal a person's true nature. We have a long future ahead of us."
"Wow, is this your promise of love to be together for the rest of your lives?" Abigail asked sarcastically. "Chandler, do you still remember Helly?"
"You're not me; how would you know if I don't remember her?" Chandler was expressionless, making it hard to read his emotions at that moment.
But his cool and distant tone gave off a sense of indifference, and this laid-back attitude successfully enraged Abigail.
"Alright." Abigail nodded. "So this is how you remember her. Scumbag, I've misjudged you. Refrain from claiming that you're Helly's ex-husband in the future. Don't embarrass her."
With that, Abigail shot Katie a fierce glare and left.
Taylor went after her, but he suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned to give Chandler a disappointed look. "Mr. Newton, you've really let me down." With that, he quickly walked out.
Once they left, only Katie and Chandler remained in the room, which fell completely silent.
He was desperate to see Helen, so he swiftly changed his plan after Katie fell into the water. He seized the chance to get close to Katie so that he could have a valid reason to go to the Terzian residence.
"Sure," Katie blurted out excitedly, but then realized she had overreacted. She pursed her lips and lowered her voice, saying, "Thank you, Mr. Newton."
Half an hour later, Chandler and Katie walked into the Terzian residence together. With Chandler's jacket draping over Katie's shoulders and the moderate distance between the two of them, it gave off a subtle sense of ambiguity.
Katie finally brought home a presentable man, so she quickly called out upon entering, "Dad, Mom, my friend is here. Hurry down."
At this moment, Helen was sitting in the dining room. Hearing the voice, she turned and met Chandler's affectionate gaze. She subtly frowned as a strong wave of uneasiness suddenly surged within her.
