Unmasking Mrs. Newton's Secret Identities novel Chapter 1517

"By the way," Claude suddenly recalled, his expression hardening as he raised his head. "You're not still seeing that man you brought home last time, are you?"

He was referring to Kaylee's first love, the one who had colluded with Katie to bring about Kaylee's downfall.

"Of course not," Helen replied earnestly. "Don't worry, Grandpa. I've had a wake-up call and recognized his true nature. I won't make that mistake again."

"Looks like you've finally come to your senses," Claude said, sighing with relief. "Just remember this: you can date whoever you like, but don't ever choose someone like your father—a cold-hearted, ungrateful scoundrel. Do you understand?"

"Don't worry, Grandpa. My partner is reliable—completely different from all the others," Helen assured him, her thoughts drifting to Chandler.

"You should bring him around one day so your uncles and I can meet him," Claude urged. "You're still inexperienced, and I worry you might get caught up with the wrong man again."

"I understand, Grandpa!"

Meanwhile, in the garden, Taylor arrived fashionably late. Not knowing many people, he picked up a glass of champagne and slipped away to a quieter area.

After searching for a while, he finally found a spot with a good view and no one around. He paused to sip his champagne, scanning the guests cautiously.

Though his family held some influence in Glendale, they had never been part of the literary scene. He couldn't fathom why an esteemed figure like Claude would invite him out of the blue.

Believing that more friends meant more opportunities, Taylor had hurried over after rescheduling a meeting. He planned to exchange a few words with Claude before making a swift exit.

Turning on his phone voice recording, Taylor tucked it into his pocket and approached her. "Excuse me, miss, do you not like Kaylee either?"

"Mind your own damn—" Katie was ready to retort, but as soon as she saw Taylor's strikingly handsome face, her words faltered. She quickly tucked her foot away and smoothed her dress, putting on a mask of decorum.

"Sorry if I startled you; I'm not usually like this," she said, tucking her tousled hair behind her ear with a shy smile.

Taylor felt a shiver run down his spine but managed to maintain his composure, offering an awkward laugh. "I can see that. But back to the point—I heard you refer to Kaylee as a wretch. Do you hold a grudge against her as well?"

"Why do you say 'as well'?" Katie asked, her curiosity piqued.
