Abraham's mind whirled in shock, his expression frozen in disbelief. "How could you possibly know? The property deed has always been in my hands!"
"Because I inherited my mother's intelligence," Helen replied with a bright smile. "Did you really think I spent the last six months just vacationing? Unlike you, I don't have the luxury of wasting time.
"I took the initiative to learn about computers and looked into how many properties our family owns—it was quite simple."
A wave of panic surged through Abraham as he looked at Kaylee's familiar face, yet a disconcerting sense of unfamiliarity gnawed at him. In just six months, she had evolved into someone calm and formidable, and that terrified him.
Abraham adjusted his posture, eyeing her with suspicion. "What else do you know?"
"What else would you like me to know?" Helen asked, her smile radiant and her eyes crinkling.
Though she looked innocent and charming, Abraham couldn't shake the unsettling feeling of malice hidden beneath her exterior.
He absentmindedly fiddled with his fingers, weighing his options. It was evident that "Kaylee" was no longer the naive girl he could easily manipulate; any careless words could backfire, so he needed to tread carefully and avoid revealing too much in her presence.
Moreover, she was correct—legally, she was the rightful owner of the house. If things spiraled out of control, he would have little ground to stand on against her.
"Nothing at all," Abraham said with a forced smile. "Since you're tired, you should go to your room and rest. We can discuss the wedding details later."
Helen rolled her eyes, choosing not to respond as she turned to leave.
The moment she walked away, the smile faded from Abraham's face.
…
The next morning soon arrived.
Helen deliberately took an extra ten minutes before coming down for breakfast, only to find the Terzians unexpectedly gathered at the table. She paused, feeling like she was stepping into a trap.
"Enough," Abraham said firmly, cutting her off. "What's with all the shouting this early in the morning? With Kaylee pregnant and feeling unwell, we need to be more considerate."
He continued, "Here's the plan—since Katie has her exam today, I suggest we all accompany her. It'll also give Kaylee a chance to unwind."
"I'm not going."
"No way!"
Helen and Katie responded in unison.
"Dad, having Kaylee there will be too distracting! If I don't pass, who will take the blame?" Katie complained, her frustration bubbling over.
Helen raised an eyebrow, curious about how this would play out.
