Unmasking Mrs. Newton's Secret Identities novel Chapter 1378

Silence hung between them, stretching on for several minutes. Finally, Mia snapped back to reality, forcing a calm expression as she drove Helen home.

The atmosphere was thick with an unspoken understanding, and neither of them was willing to break the stillness.

When they arrived, Helen approached Mia's window. "Drive safely on your way back. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call me," she said gently.

Given Mia's past experiences, Helen hesitated to step in directly.

"I'm okay," Mia replied, offering a wry smile. "But I might need to take tomorrow off."

"That's completely fine. I'll be in Windspire City, so take all the time you need. Your salary will still be covered," Helen remarked with a grin.

"Thank you, Helen."

Mia knew Helen had sensed her distress and was trying to comfort her in her own way. Nonetheless, she simply didn't have the strength to maintain a brave front. After forcing a smile, she turned her car around and drove off.

Helen stood on the roadside, watching the car's lights fade into the darkness, a wave of unease washing over her.

Shortly after driving away, Mia dialed Scott's number. Just as the call was about to disconnect, she finally heard his voice on the other end. "Hello, Mia? What's going on?"

Scott pushed the door open, yawning as he entered. When he turned on the light, he was startled to find Mia sitting there.

"Mia?" He quickly hid his surprise behind a worried look. "What are you doing here? Why aren't you in bed? I'm so sorry; they just wouldn't let me leave."

He sat down next to Mia and reached out to hug her. She instinctively recoiled. "Don't touch me."

Scott leaned in closer, unwilling to relent. "Come on, Mia, I'm sorry! I'll make it up to you. Don't be mad."

"Didn't I tell you not to touch me? Are you deaf?" Mia snapped, frustration boiling over as she stood up.
