"Oh no, Scott's really good at singing and dancing too," Mia quickly jumped in to defend him. "By the way, Helen, isn't Nova Entertainment recruiting new talent? Do you think Scott might have a chance?"
Mia knew that Helen's opinion held considerable weight with Vince. If Scott could get a recommendation from her, he'd likely secure a fantastic opportunity at Nova Entertainment.
After all, Vince had effortlessly covered Ryan's hundreds of millions in penalty fees with just a wave of his hand. It was clear that aligning with him was a smart move.
Scott had been thinking along the same lines. However, he pretended to be modest when Mia brought it up. He tugged at her sleeve, looking visibly embarrassed. "Mia, what are you saying? We shouldn't trouble Ms. Spencer…"
Despite his courteous words, both Scott and Mia turned to Helen with hopeful expressions, silently asking for her support.
Nonetheless, Helen wasn't easily manipulated. She raised her glass and smiled, smoothly changing the subject. "It's been a while since you two have seen each other. Why don't you enjoy some time together? I'll leave you to it—I wouldn't want to be a third wheel."
With that, she walked upstairs, politely declining their request.
Scott felt humiliated by Helen's dismissal. Once she was out of sight, he lowered his voice, frustration spilling over. "Mia, what was that all about?"
"What did I do?" Mia asked, genuinely confused.
"I just met Ms. Spencer for the first time, and you're already trying to push for connections. How do you think that makes me look?" Scott exclaimed, his irritation rising.
"Do you even hear yourself? I'm just trying to help you! You want a stable career, right? Or do you plan to keep doing random gigs for the rest of your life?" Mia shot back, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
"But I'm a man! I don't want people to think I'm with you just to leverage your connections!" Scott raised his voice, feeling more agitated by the moment.
"I know you're not, so why does it matter what anyone else thinks?" Mia's voice trembled as she fought back tears. "We're in a relationship; do we really have to keep our networks so separate?"
Mia, however, remained composed. She gently cupped Scott's face, checking for injuries. Thankfully, he hadn't suffered any serious damage.
Turning to Tyrone, she scolded, "Mr. Tyrone, why did you hit him?"
"Because he deserves it," Tyrone replied. He stood with his fists clenched at his sides, his demeanor exuding a warning to keep away.
He couldn't believe Scott still had the nerve to show his face after the last warning he'd given. To Tyrone, it was obvious that Scott was exploiting Mia, playing the part of a caring boyfriend while secretly manipulating her for his own gain.
"Is there some kind of misunderstanding here?" Mia asked, aware that Tyrone wasn't a bad person. She tried to defuse the situation, adding, "Scott is my boyfriend, and he's really a good guy. Are you sure you're not mixing him up with someone else?"
Tyrone's expression darkened, and he remained silent, the tension in the air growing thick.
