Hera and Bernard spent one week at Lumiville with Dylan and Dora before returning to Jedburgh. By the seventh day, Hera wanted to open the clinic for consultations, but Bernard was reluctant to let her get back to work so soon.
"We got married not long ago, so you should accompany me for a few more days. We went through so much just to reunite."
"Don't you have to work?" Hera inquired.
The company had been operating for a few days since New Year's. However, there were seven confirmed cases of tuberculosis among the Killian family, everyone at the residence and their close contacts were under isolation.
Since none of them could go back to work, Bernard should personally oversee things at the office since he was the boss.
Instead, she heard Bernard say smugly, "It's normal for me not to go to the office. Besides, I have enough wealth that will last you and the children for a few lifetimes. Who cares if I take another few days off work?"
Thus, Hera, Bernard, Dylan, and Dora went for a three-day vacation in a small town on the outskirts of Jedburgh.
After that, Hera insisted on opening the clinic for consultation. She would feel useless if she continued wasting her time like that. After all, she found it more tiring and challenging to travel with Dylan and Dora than going to work.
After being on holiday for so long, Dylan and Dora were no longer interested in studying. Since it was almost time for the spring semester to begin, Bernard signed them up for an elite kindergarten near the courtyard house. He wanted them to refocus and start getting ready for school.
Hera opened the clinic on the first day she was back, but there weren't many patients. Bernard didn't go to the office, choosing to work at home instead while discussing the upcoming wedding with Hera in the study.
While discussing, the atmosphere seemed to change. They began to kiss and cuddle in the study. Douglas stood at the study door, unsure whether he should enter.
At that moment, Leon arrived. "Mr. Copley, what are you doing, standing at the door?" With that, he brazenly pushed open the door to the study.
"Boss, about what you asked me to investigate, I… found something."
Hera immediately pushed Bernard aside and got out of his lap. Having been interrupted, Bernard unhappily cast an icy glance at Leon, who immediately looked away.
This farmer in his 50s had no contact with her in the past. Yet he was able to cough up 50 million dollars to harm her. Clearly, someone had ordered him to do so.
"How did he get the 50 million dollars?" Hera asked.
Leon shook his head. "I'm not sure. He deposited the money into Everly's account in cash, so I can't trace anything. The bank's surveillance cameras showed that he was the only one there."
If it were cash, it wouldn't be easy to investigate.
"Did you investigate his family?" Bernard's gaze paused on the column referring to Lawrence's family details while asking.
Leon cleared his throat. "No."
