"Oh, there's really no logo. You shouldn't simply accept such gifts. What if something happens to you after taking that medication? It'll be a real problem."
Those ladies sounded sarcastic, all chiming in one after another. Their comments irritated Sandra, who knew that they were deliberately trying to ruin things.
Samantha often experienced these situations, so she wasn't frantic at all. Instead, she continued with a smile, "I asked my best friend to custom-make this emergency heart medication. She's a miracle doctor, so the quality of her products is definitely guaranteed. Don't worry about that."
After hearing the phrase "miracle doctor", Sandra immediately thought of Hera. "The miracle doctor you just mentioned, are you talking about Dr. Shadow?"
"Exactly, it's her. We happen to be best friends," Samantha replied. "I'm sure Mr. Thompson Senior has seen everything at his age.
"None of the riches and gems in this world are as important as his health. Although this custom-made emergency heart medication isn't expensive, they're very useful. Of course, I hope you won't have to ever use them, Mr. Thompson Senior."
Alex was overjoyed to hear that. "Quickly bring the box to me. Let me have a look."
Everyone knew that it was hard to get their hands on Hera's medicine. As soon as the women heard that the medicine came from Hera, one of them immediately changed her tune.
"So, it's medicine developed by Dr. Shadow. I knew something about this medicine would be very special."
The others began to agree, trying to act normal after just attempting to embarrass Samantha.
With the emergency heart medication, Samantha was able to mingle with Shaun's family members, who started to flatter her. Their motives were obvious as Alex was clearly fond of her.
Moreover, Samantha was Hera's best friend. Whoever could get close to Samantha first would gain Alex's approval.
Sandra didn't like what they were up to, so she intentionally led Samantha away.
While chatting with the women, Samantha was also keeping an eye out for Shaun. As more guests arrived, there was still no sign of him even though the birthday banquet was about to start.
Sandra turned on the lights. The first thing they saw were empty beer bottles and cigarette butts scattered messily everywhere.
"You guys are so annoying!" Shaun irritably pulled the covers off his head. He sat up on his bed and opened his eyes. The first person he saw was Samantha, leaving him stunned.
She was taken aback to see his current state. Both of them stared at each other, and it was as if time had stopped.
Samantha rarely saw him that way—messy hair, unkempt beard, heavy dark circles, and a thinner face. How could he have deteriorated to this state in just a few days of not seeing him?
Wasn't he happy to be engaged?
Meanwhile, Shawn never expected Samantha, who had sworn to never show up, to appear in his room.
