They Want Me Back When It's Too Late (Jessica and Brian) novel Chapter 270

Chapter 270

Chapter 270

Madeline knew for sure Jessica had no evidence. And she was right. Jessica had nothing.

With a sharp tug, Madeline wrenched her wrist free, shaking it as she smirked. Jessi, if you’ve got nothing, I’m out. Next time, don’t jump the gun like that. Not everyone will put up with your accusations.

Jessica’s expression turned icecold. Madeline, I don’t have proof now, but if I catch you following me again, you’re going straight to the cops.

She’d been blindsided this time, but she wouldn’t let it happen twice.

Madeline’s smile vanished. After a moment, she scoffed, Who are you trying to intimidate? I told you I wasn’t stalking. Your problem if you don’t believe me.With that, she whirled around and stalked off.

Getting caught redhanded meant tailing Jessica would be a lot trickier. But I’ve gotten what I need anyway. Tracking her isn’t worth the risk, Madeline thought, shrugging it off quickly.

Watching Madeline’s retreating back, Jessica knew she was lying through her teeth.

Jessica thought, But what can I do? Even if I had evidence, Brian would never let Madeline stay behind bars!

He’s groveled for our kidssake, and with Madeline pregnant and in his good graces, he’d bail her out in a heartbeat, probably blaming my jealousy!

Just thinking about it made her blood boil.

She sighed, thinking, Enough is enough. Madeline wouldn’t dare try this again after today!

Jessica tried to convince herself as she started to leave, only to feel a sudden wave of dizziness. She grabbed the wall for support, squeezing her eyes shut until the world stopped spinning.

God, I’m so tired,she thought.

Twenty minutes later in the therapy room, Wesley eyed Jessica slumping on the opposite sofa.

He asked, Ms. Grant, you look drained, Mind if I ask, have you run into someone or had something happen lately?

Nope,” Jessica shot back automatically.

Wesley saw through her guard and sighed, I can’t get an accurate read on your mental state when you hold back like this.

Jessica’s voice turned icy. What’s to read? My condition’s just getting worse, like you’ve said before.

She wouldn’t admit Madeline’s words had gotten under her skin, especially the part about being pregnant too and Brian letting her stay to have the baby. It was ridiculous.

She thought, Brian, if she’s also carrying your baby, why obsess over the twins in my belly?

She felt stupid for ever being touched by him.

She thought, The food he sent was probably Madeline’s leftovers. You were moved by that? Seriously?

Anger flared, her nails digging into her palms.

Just then, a soft meow came from her lap.

Jessica looked down at Tres, who’d hopped onto her legs without her noticing, her lips quivering,

Seconds later, a cup of warm water appeared. Here, have some water.

She looked up as Wesley stepped from behind his desk. Dr. Finch, she blurted, do you think I’m weak?

She thought, After all this time, I still couldn’t let go. I’ve tried so hard to stop caring about Brian, but anything tied to him still triggered me.

Sometimes she even hated herself for it.

He said, No, Ms. Grant, you’re plenty strong in my book. This selfcriticism is just part of the illness.

Wesley placed the water cup in her hand and pressed on. Like I’ve said, don’t bottle things up. Hortor how you feel.

If staying away hurts this much, maybe stop pushing Brian and Jacob away. Do what comes naturally now. You can pull back later when you’re better.

Not necessary. My life doesn’t need them in it. This is fine,Jessica fired back.

She thought, How could I go near Brian now? He has a kid with Madeline. What would I be if I cling to him?

The thought was ridiculous. She stood abruptly. Dr. Finch, let’s drop this. I won’t reconsider.

Wesley flinched at her sharp tone.

I have work at the office. Gotta go. I’ll see you next Thursday,Jessica blurted, desperate to escape.

Wait,Wesley called.

She turned warily. Need something, Dr. Finch?

He gave a lopsided smile. No, just a headsup. We scheduled sessions for both Tuesday and Thursday, remember?

She paused, then nodded. Right. Sorry, I’m on edge today.”

Don’t sweat it. If anything, I should apologize. As your therapist, I’m supposed to help you feel better, and I’m not doing my job.

That made Jessica actually laugh. Has anyone told you, Dr. Finch, you’re really good at cheering people up.

Funny you should ask.He grinned. Lots of people have.

This time Jessica’s smile was genuine, and some of the weight lifted from her shoulders.

Wesley couldn’t help pressing. Ms. Grant, are you sure you won’t talk about what happened earlier? Maybe I can offer some help.
