Chapter 250
“But I’m worried about you,” Brian replied without hesitation, then couldn’t help looking at her stomach. The baby bump seemed bigger. He wanted to know if the babies were behaving and not bothering Jessi.
Seeing this, Jessica was more convinced than ever that all his kindness was because of the unborn children, making her even more annoyed. “I don’t need your worry. If you have time, you should go visit Jacob in the hospital more.”
Thinking of the last time she’d seen Jacob lying alone in the hospital bed, Jessica couldn’t help resenting Brian. He was really failing as a father.
Instead of getting angry at her accusation, Brian smiled and said, “Jessi, how do you know I haven’t visited Jacob? Or did you go to the hospital but
didn’t see me?”
Jessica instinctively retorted, “What are you talking about? When did I go to the hospital? Since Jacob is with you, he’s your responsibility, not mine at
all.”
She still wouldn’t admit she cared about Jacob. Realizing this, Brian suddenly wanted to sigh. He didn’t understand why Jessi had suddenly become so repulsed by him and Jacob.
“Jessi, Jacob is your child too. No one can change that,” Brian said seriously.
Jessica turned her head and said coldly, “I know. So what? Just because he’s my son, do I have to sacrifice everything for him? Or do you mean I didn’t sacrifice enough before? You should know exactly what my care for you two got me.”
“Jessi, you know that’s not what I mean,” Brian said helplessly.
“I don’t care what you mean. You’re not welcome here. Please leave.”
She wanted to leave, but Brian instinctively grabbed her wrist.
“Get your hand off me.” Jessica’s voice suddenly turned icy.
Brian forcefully put the breakfast in her hand. “Just eat some breakfast. You look terrible. You don’t want to worry your parents, do you?”
Jessica had been trying to withdraw her hand, but was stunned by the last sentence. But Brian let go and left on his own.
Jessica stared at his back. After a long while, she finally opened the breakfast.
She really hadn’t eaten breakfast today. Last night, she’d been so worried about Jacob’s condition that she couldn’t sleep, so she’d had no appetite that
morning.
Now, all the food Brian had brought was her favorite. She hesitated, picked up a sandwich, took a bite, and couldn’t stop. In the end, she finished
everything.
Jessica was silent because she felt like she was starting to rely on Brian again.
Since Dereck and Stella couldn’t persuade Jessica to visit Jacob, they increased their visits to the hospital, trying to make sure their grandson didn’t feel lonely.
“Jacob, guess what I brought you this time?” Dereck said, taking out a big box.
Jacob, who’d been memorizing a text, glanced at it and said excitedly, “My favorite Lego! Grandpa, I love you!”
He was so excited he almost jumped up to kiss Dereck.
“We love you too. There’s more here.” Stella felt happier seeing Jacob so happy, then took out the toy car she’d brought and handed it over.
