An overwhelmingly strong aura erupted from the middle-aged man and surged into the sky as he uttered those words. The sheer force shattered the raindrops falling around him.
He was definitely a powerhouse and an unfathomable one at that.
Harper wasn't unfamiliar with his kind of aura, but every time she had encountered it before, it had always belonged to someone invincible. After taking a deep breath, she walked up and stopped about ten yards away from the middle-aged man.
"Excuse me, mister. May I ask why you're blocking my path? Cout it be that you, too, are connected to the one trying to wipe out my family?"
According to the information Harper had received, an enemy of the family had arrived and threatened to wipe out the entire family. This enraged her to the point that she immediately gathered her people and rushed back to the family estate.
The middle-aged man looked at Harper and said calmly, "The one you're referring to isn't the type to kill the innocent indiscriminately. If he decides to take a life, there must be a reason for it. Harper, I once shared a connection with your mentor, Selene. So, stepping in to stop you today is, in fact, me trying to save you."
Harper's eyes immediately lit up at the mention of her mentor's name. Looking at the middle-aged man with a frown, she asked, "You claim to have ties with my mentor, but who are you really?"
The middle-aged man slowly raised his head to meet Harper's gaze. "I am Pierce Juno."
As the man uttered his name, his overwhelming aura grew stronger.
Harper's expression changed dramatically. There was even a trace of hatred in her eyes as she stared at Pierce.
The two clashed fiercely in the pouring rain, their movements so swift and relentless that it was impossible to discern who held the upper hand. Two minutes later, Harper retreated to her original position. Her left arm had been injured by Pierce, rendering it immobile.
Pierce, though no longer as relaxed and composed as before, remained unscathed. Most notably, he had never once drawn a weapon, nor had he launched any attacks of his own. It was clear that throughout the fight, his movements were more akin to testing Harper's abilities, offering guidance like a mentor to a mentee.
"No wonder they call you Pierce, The Invincible under The Dragon Ranking. Your reputation is well-deserved. But you're wrong about one thing. If I'm willing to risk it all, burning my life force to fight you, do you really think you'd still be standing here unscathed?"
As she spoke, a trace of ruthlessness flashed in her eyes. The aura around her surged higher and higher, as if her fighting spirit was growing stronger with every passing moment.
A glimmer of solemness appeared in Pierce's eyes. He frowned tightly and said, "Harper, there is no deep-seated enmity between us, nor between your mentor and me."
