The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 525

Megan hated Nolan to her core at this point. The first slap had already pushed her to the brink of fury, but now, Nolan had hit her a second time?

"Nolan, mark my words, I'll make you pay for this slap someday!"

Nolan nodded slightly. "Sure, you're welcome to try anytime. But do you really have what it takes? Or are you counting on Owen to fight your battles for you? Megan, by tomorrow, you'll finally wake up from whatever fantasy you're living in."

With that, Nolan waved his hand, and one of his men immediately guided the boat to the shore where it waited in silence.

Nolan looked at Megan and said calmly as ever, "Let's go. We should make our way to Eastland, and by tomorrow at the latest, you'll see your old lover soon."

The words sent a shiver through Megan, as if she couldn't believe this was really happening.

"Y-You're really going? You weren't just bluffing?"

Nolan chuckled softly at her reaction. "Why wouldn't I dare to go? I'm not the one in the wrong here, so what do I have to fear? Megan, do you really think I was joking earlier? From the very beginning, my only goal was to keep Lense alive. As long he's alive, I'm willing to hand over Myth Group to Owen.

"To me, my friend's life is worth more than anything else. But, of course, this all depends on Lense staying alive—and on me being in a good mood. If Owen dares to harm him, or worse, kill him, Megan, I swear, I'll make you watch every second of how Owen meets his end."

Hound gave a firm nod. "Yes, Mr. Norberg. I took care of it personally. The body's already been dumped in the lake as fish food. Why do you ask, Mr. Norberg?"

Owen frowned slightly at Hound's response before shaking his head. "It's nothing. I was just wondering if we might have killed him a bit too soon. Maybe there was still some use for him. But, what's done is done. Did he say anything before he died?"

Hound paused to think, then replied softly, "He only said two things. One, that he regretted failing Mr. Greene's trust in him, and two, that Mr. Greene would avenge him by killing all of us."

Hearing this, Owen immediately let out a cold scoff.
