I watched Elizabeth leave the ball, her elegance untouchable, yet somehow just out of reach.

I had to know. I needed to understand her–what she felt for me.

But before I could follow her, Marcus stepped out of the shadows, a cigarette dangling from his lips.

He looked at me, his sharp eyes scanning me with a smugness that made my blood boil.

He was wearing a tailored suit today, something more polished than his usual black.

“I remember you usually stick to black suits,” I said with a faint edge to my voice. “What’s with the change? Dressing up to impress Elizabeth?”

Marcus tugged at his collar, a small smirk curling at the edge of his mouth.

“What I wear is my business, Leo. I don’t need your permission.”

I suppressed my rising anger, my jaw tightening.

“You might have freedom in your wardrobe, but coming here to try and seduce my Luna? That’s crossing a line.”

“You’re too possessive. She doesn’t belong to you, Leo. Not anymore.”

I stepped closer, our footsteps echoing as we reached the lift.

He pressed the button, and when the doors slid open, I pressed the switch, keeping the doors from closing.

In just a few moments, I discreetly set things in motion that disrupted Marcus‘ evening, forcing him to leave the ball prematurely.

Using my connections, I arranged for a sudden inspection at one of his key business locations, sparking concerns of legal violations that demanded his immediate attention.

The authorities had been tipped off about potential tax discrepancies and improper permits, creating enough chaos to pull him away from Elizabeth and deal with the urgent matter.

It wasn’t a direct confrontation, but enough to remind him that I had control over more than just our personal rivalry,

“Don’t get any ideas, Marcus,” I warned, my voice low and cold. “Tonight was just a warning.”

Marcus raised an eyebrow, barely containing his anger. “You threatened me?”

I gave him a hard look.

“Not a threat. I don’t make threats. I make promises. Next time, you’ll have a real problem on your hands.”

He sneered, the tension between us thickening.

“You’ve got a real temper, Leo. Does Elizabeth know about that side of you? The overbearing, angry side?”

His words dug deep, but I kept my face cold, my voice steady.

“Don’t worry, Marcus. I’ll pay attention to myself. But you stay out of it. Elizabeth’s mine.”

The lift doors slid closed, cutting off our conversation, but the fire in my chest still burned.
