“Physically, she seems to be stable. The injuries were severe, but it looks like the received some sort of treatment before the arrived here. It’s usual, but I believe she’s out of immediate danger. However, the psychological trauma is another matter entirely. That will take much longer to heat
Leo, who had been silent beside me, glanced at me, his eyes searching mine as if trying to understand something.
I couldn’t meet his gaze, the guilt weighing too heavily on my shoulders.
This was my fault. If I hadn’t been involved, Emma wouldn’t have suffered like this.
A single tear slipped down my cheek, followed by another, and then another.
I couldn’t hold them back any longer.
The worry, the guilt–it all came crashing down on me at once.
Leo sighed, and before I knew it, he had pulled me into a hug.
It wasn’t his usual embrace, full of passion and heat.
This one was different, gentle and comforting, a silent offering of support when words failed him.
He wasn’t good with emotional confrontations, but in that moment, his arms around me were exactly what I needed.
I buried my face in his chest, letting the tears fall freely.
For a few moments, I allowed myself to be vulnerable, to release the pain that had been building up inside me.
When the tears finally subsided, I pulled back, wiping my face and taking a deep breath.
I had to be strong now, for Emma’s sake.
“Can I see her?” I asked the doctor, my voice steadier than I felt.
The doctor nodded. “You can, but be gentle. She’s been through a lot.”
I nodded, my heart heavy with a mixture of determination and dread.
I had to be there for her, to help her through this, no matter how hard it would be.
Taking another deep breath, I pushed open the door to Emma’s room, steeling myself for what lay ahead.
I entered the ward, where Emma was already awake, her frail figure lying still against the sterile white sheets.
The fluorescent lights above cast a harsh glow on her pale face, highlighting the bruises that had been carefully treated.
Bandages wrapped around her arms where syringes were inserted, and the beeping of the monitors filled the silent room.
Seeing her like this made my heart ache with guilt.
Chapter 103
“It’s not your fault. Even if you and Aria didn’t have a beef, Sorcia and her followers would still find a reason to bully me, and she and I have never been on good terms.” Her voice trembled slightly as she continued, It’s just that I didn’t expect them to go straight for me.*
