The Heiress Nobody Saw Coming (Natalie and Marcus) novel Chapter 535

Before Marcus could grab hold of Natalie, a doctor hurried over and said, "Mr. Marcus, Mr. Charles wants to speak with you."

The doctor's tone was respectful yet cautious. He didn't even dare to meet Marcus' eyes when he spoke.

Marcus steadied himself and stepped into the examination room. "Grandpa," he called.

"Marcus." Charles reached out, holding Marcus' hand firmly. "Take me home. I don't want to stay in the hospital. Take me home."

"Grandpa, you have to stay for treatment." Marcus suppressed the sadness inside of him. "Let's not care about what Yvette said."

"Marcus, you were raised by me, so you should know me well enough. Just do this for me, okay?" Charles' eyes reddened. He didn't want to shed tears in front of others.

He tightened his fingers around Marcus' hand before saying, "Marcus, there are things I don't want to say here. Take me home. I know my body best. Just listen to me, alright?"

"Grandpa—"

"Marcus, I'm begging you," Charles cut him off. "Just this once, listen to me."

Marcus had to hold back his emotions. After a long pause, he nodded. "Alright. I'll take you home."

"Very good. You really are my grandson." Charles let out a sigh of relief. He lay back down on the bed and added, "I must've scared you all earlier. I'm sorry for that."

"Grandpa, don't say that. Let's go! Let's go home."

"Alright."

Marcus agreed to Charles' request and arranged for him to be taken to the car. The moment they got in, he finally understood what Hector and Natalie had meant.

A bitter taste filled his mouth. Deep down, he had known the truth all along, but he'd been trying to deceive himself.

Hector was right to stop Natalie from agreeing to his request.

An hour later, Marcus returned to Holden Residence with Charles.

Yvette was still sitting leisurely on the couch. When she heard the commotion, she opened her eyes slowly as a mocking smile appeared on her face.

"Charles, looks like you couldn't handle the truth after all!"

Yvette didn't bother hiding her contempt. "You've finally woken up from being trapped in the web of lies Vivian spun for you all these years."

"I still don't believe you. Vivian wouldn't do such things," Charles replied. He looked as if he had aged ten years in an instant. "Yvette, tell me that you're lying. I'm begging you, please."

"No," Yvette replied without hesitation. "Charles, back then, you already knew something was off, but you chose to trust Vivian.

"All these years, I spent countless nights wondering—if you had just doubted her and came back to check on us for once, the Jenkins family wouldn't have met such a tragic end.

Soon, the vast living room was left with only Charles and Yvette.

"Charles, you can play it now." Yvette gave him a cold smile. "You can watch for yourself how Vivian and that man created Cassie."

With trembling fingers, Charles moved the mouse. He muted the audio and only watched the footage. The longer he watched, the redder his eyes became.

He hurled the laptop away, and it loudly crashed on the floor.

"Now, do you believe me?" Yvette stood up, staring straight at Charles. "You can break one, but I still have plenty more copies."

"Please, stop this." Charles collapsed to the floor in front of her. "I was wrong. I admit it. You were right. Back then, I sensed something was off, but because I loved Vivian, I chose to believe her.

"After the fire at the Jenkins residence, I was consumed with guilt. But Vivian was devastated too. All I could do was to arrange a funeral for the victims who perished in the fire."

"Vivian was devastated? She orchestrated the whole thing." Yvette glared coldly at Charles. "Charles, deep down, you already know the truth. But to protect Vivian's reputation, you fed Marcus that fabricated story.

"You were afraid that the woman you had loved deeply for so many years never actually loved you. You were afraid that your love story was just a lie, that you were just a stepping stone for someone else.

"But all of this… that was exactly what you deserve."

"Yvette, since you never returned then, and you chose to hide all these years, why did you come back now?" Charles asked. "Why couldn't you just let me live in my dream? Why did you crush my beautiful dream? Why? Why!"

"That's because I have cancer. I'm dying." Yvette laughed out loud. "Since I'm dying, why should you get to live a good life? Charles, you should just die with me. You must atone!"
