The Heiress Nobody Saw Coming (Natalie and Marcus) novel Chapter 623

Jonathan ended up transferring the exact amount Kyle mentioned—just over 2,000 dollars. Then, he personally walked the couple out of the hospital.

They exchanged contact information, and Jonathan made a mental note in his heart. If there ever came a chance to help them rise, he would absolutely do it.

When he returned to the hospital room, Sierra had finished treating her wound. Not long after, officers from the local precinct arrived. Once the formal report was completed, Sierra looked completely drained.

"Cee, tell me the truth," Melissa said while holding her daughter tightly. "Weren't you with Samuel? Why were you walking alone in such a deserted area?"

Samantha stood nearby and added with concern, "Yeah, Cee. You haven't been back in Dithoria State for years, and things have changed a lot. There are some areas you really shouldn't go to by yourself."

Sierra had finally calmed down by then. She reached up and lightly touched the gauze taped to her cheek. Yet, instead of responding to their questions, she turned to Sophia. "Sophia, can we talk... just the two of us?"

Before Sophia could even open her mouth, Zachary answered for her. "Absolutely not. Ms. Remington, I understand that Samuel is your husband, and things between him and my girlfriend have been... tense.

"To avoid any unnecessary drama between you and Sophia, it's better if the two of you don't speak alone."

Sophia looked at Zachary, and he gently squeezed her hand. He did not know exactly what kind of person Sierra was, but if she was anything like Samuel, there was no telling what nasty things she might say. He could not bear the thought of Sophia hearing more cruel words—especially not from someone she once called family.

"Sophia, I promise. I'm not like Samuel," Sierra said, her gaze locked on Sophia's. She had just come terrifyingly close to being assaulted, and all she could think was how, if it had happened, Samuel might have written her off the same way he did Sophia.

The truth was, she was deeply disappointed in him. That was also why she had stormed off after their argument and ended up in danger.

Sierra added, "Sophia, please believe me. I'll never forget that when Mom brought me home, you were the first to welcome me with kindness. You were the one who led me into your room, who showed me what it felt like to have a sister.

Sophia listened, recalling their childhood. She remembered how Sierra did not stay long with the Sinclairs back then, but even so, she genuinely adored her during that short time.

She had known that Sierra came from the streets—dirty, starving, nearly taken by some awful man—and she had truly felt for her. Sophia had just wanted to care for her with all her heart.

And the truth was, Sophia had done exactly that.

Later on, when Sierra and Samuel left the country, Sophia had no choice but to stay behind as collateral at the Sinclairs' demand. Through tears, she had hugged them goodbye and begged Sierra not to forget her.

Now, they were all grown. Sierra and Samuel were married as if it had always been meant to be, while Sophia had gone through so much alone.

"Sophia, I'm not like Samuel. I'm a woman, too," Sierra said as she looked into Sophia's eyes, her voice filled with sincerity.

Sophia turned to Zachary, and he stayed quiet for a long moment before nodding slowly. "If you want to talk to her alone, I won't stop you."

Sophia nodded. "Alright... I'll speak with her, just for a bit."

Zachary gently ruffled Sophia's hair. "Okay. I'll wait with the others nearby while you talk."

"I don't want to talk here," Sierra said as she stood up. "I'd rather go to a café with Sophia. There's one just down the block."
