Elise was speechless.
She was usually great with words, a real master of subtle insults. She had been about to say something, but Shaun’s quiet, “My lady,” shut her up instantly.
That simple phrase was the sweetest thing anyone could hear-way better than cheesy nicknames like “babe” or “darling”.
Elise sulked and stayed silent.
Halsey glanced at Shaun, impressed at his shrewdness.
He just smiled.
At the bar…
Warren and Chelsea were both there. Shaun brought Halsey and Elise to a fancy VIP booth, joined by a few rich young heirs.
Everyone settled in, and Warren looked at Halsey. “What are you doing here?”
Halsey replied, “Your best buddy Shaun invited me. Honestly, I didn’t really want to come.”
Warren fell silent, feeling like Halsey must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.
Chelsea glared at Halsey and Elise. She hated them both. When two women meet, jealousy flares, but three women together? It was basically a drama unfolding live.
Chelsea sneered at Shaun, “Why did you bring your old and new flame here?”
“Sure, Ms. Mallin and I are Mr. Lane’s old and new flame. But what about you? You’ve been with him so long-don’t tell me you’re just a background character with no importance,” Elise shot back at Chelsea.
Elise went straight for the throat.
Chelsea clenched her fists, furious to the point of nearly having a stroke.
Meanwhile, Halsey stayed quiet, sitting calmly.
Sensing the tension, the guys quickly tried to lighten the mood. “Come on. Let’s drink.”
One of them grabbed a cocktail and offered, “Ms. Mallin, do you drink this kind of stuff?”
Before Halsey could answer, Shaun cut in. “She’s pregnant. No alcohol.”
Everyone froze.
“What? She’s pregnant?”
“Who’s the father?”
“That’s obvious-it’s Mr. Lane, right?”
Shaun said calmly, “Yes, I’m the father.”
Halsey glanced at Shaun. He didn’t have to announce it like that, but he did-he openly declared she was carrying his child.
“Congrats! You’re having a baby!”

“I knew it-only Ms. Mallin could hold onto Mr. Lane.”
