Karen followed her gaze in silence.
"Who's that?"
"No idea." Dorothy found it odd.
She was the only patient in this room, so the doctor must have come specifically for her. But instead of coming in, he just stood furtively at the doorway, and the moment their eyes met, he turned and left. It was all very odd.
"Do you think he finds you attractive and has fallen for you?"
"You're overthinking." Dorothy refrained from telling Karen about her daydream of Everett appearing to save her.
The more she thought about it, the more impossible it seemed. There wasn’t even a 1% chance.
"I've told my cousin about your plans to leave the country. He'll look after us. He's been single all these years; don't tell me you don't know why."
Of course, Dorothy knew.
But she had already made her intentions clear. As for Kenneth's decisions, those were up to him. She couldn't control him.
…
Everett had just returned to the headquarters of the Lopez Corporation. Before he could even meet the shareholders, Jeffrey came storming in.
"You're back at the office!" He blurted out, then quickly corrected himself. "No, I almost forgot. You're getting married, and I don't even know who the bride is!"
When he first saw the news, he thought it was fake. It wasn't until Everett's parents called to ask him who their son was marrying that Jeffrey realized it was true.
But... how was he supposed to know who Everett was marrying?!
"It will never be her."
Everett interrupted him coldly, then glanced at the office door. "It's work hours now. Anything else?"
The message was clear: He was being dismissed.
But Jeffrey wasn't about to leave without getting answers.
"Of course there is! You, the CEO of the Lopez Corporation, suddenly announce your marriage, and don't tell me, a shareholder, who your bride is. I have every right to ask. After all, if she has a tainted past, it could affect the future of the Lopez Corporation." Over the years, Jeffrey had learned to use business as an excuse to ask about his personal matters.
"Then you can sell your shares." Everett's was clear and concise; he spoke without a hint of hesitation.
Jeffrey laughed. "Everett, the fact that you would even say in this way confirms it. You're marrying Dorothy! You can't fool me!"

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone?
