Tangled Temptations novel Chapter 179

Joan was glaring at Eloise, who was wearing a stunning emerald dress and seemed to be in high spirits.

Joan was fuming. She couldn’t understand why Eloise looked so radiant. Harvey had dumped her, yet she was living a carefree life and had even been named one of the most influential people by the city council! She couldn't let Eloise walk around so smug!

Joan said softly, "I heard about your award. I came to give you a special gift."

The secretary brought in some tea. Eloise took the tea calmly and said, "Ms. Joan, I appreciate your gesture. But there's no love lost between us, is there?"

Suddenly, Joan pulled a razor blade from her pocket. A hint of madness flashed across her face. "I'm going to slit my wrist to celebrate your victory, Ms. Laurent."

Veronica gaped in disbelief. "If you want to off yourself, do it elsewhere. Don't bring that drama here. Harvey's not here. You won't win him over by doing this. Think it through!"

Eloise just watched Joan calmly.

Joan burst into a manic laughter. "Harvey doesn't want to see me, so I had to come see you. What do you think Harvey would think of you if I cut my wrist and then call the cops on you for doing it?"

...

"What he thinks of me is none of my business. But your life is your own. If you don't value it, no one else can." Eloise knew Joan wouldn't actually kill herself. Such a selfish woman wouldn’t give up her life so easily.

In front of her, Joan was like a little girl who lost her candy and wanted to snatch even more from others. Eloise was just a casualty of her and Harvey's emotional mess.

Joan gave a sinister smile and gently slit her wrist. As she cut, she dialed Griffin. "Daddy, Eloise hurt me... Please come and save me! I'm bleeding a lot..."

Then, she called the police to arrest Eloise. She wanted to tarnish Eloise's reputation! She wouldn't let her become a star in Peterborough!

Griffin arrived quickly, along with several police officers. As soon as Joan saw Griffin, she threw herself into his arms, crying, "Daddy, I was just trying to get Eloise and Harvey back together. But she hates me. She cut my wrist with a knife and asked why I didn't just die!"

Griffin held his daughter, his eyes filled with confusion. He looked at Eloise, "Is what Joan saying true?"

Eloise looked at the man with utter contempt. As expected, Griffin believed Joan over her.

What a joke...

Just a while ago, he was grieving at her mother's grave. Now, he didn't trust her.

Eloise dropped her gaze. Thankfully, she hadn't planned on acknowledging him as her father. Otherwise, she would've been hurt again. She said calmly, "Whether what she's saying is true or not, we can find out with evidence."

Joan said quietly, "Daddy, see my wound. Everything I said is true. I have no reason to come here and frame Eloise."

She looked pitiful, "Eloise, I was ready to forgive you because of Harvey, but you've gone too far! I know you hate me, but I didn't think you'd want me dead."

Griffin said gravely, "Eloise, you should apologize to Joan. I'll try to persuade her not to press charges."

Veronica couldn't hold her tongue any longer, "Mr. Lynch, are you out of your mind? If the Lynch family has some mental issues, they should see a psychiatrist. Don't come here throwing around false accusations!"

Eloise spat out coldly, "Mr. Lynch, you better think before you speak!"

She looked him in the eye, and said slowly, "I belong to the Laurent family, and my father is Angus! I'm the child of Angus and Louise, I've got nothing to do with you, Mr. Lynch!"

Griffin's lips quivered. He never in a million years thought Eloise would despise him so much, to the point of denying that he was her biological father.

With trembling hands, he pulled out a document from his pocket. It was a DNA test report, at the bottom of which was written. [Griffin and Eloise are biologically father and daughter.]

Griffin choked out, "Take a look at this report, can you still say, 'we're not father and daughter'?"

Eloise delicately took the report from him. She let out a soft laugh. "Now I finally understand why Mom left you! Mr. Lynch, we might be biologically related, but apart from that, we have no connection! In fact, as Joan's father, I find you repulsive! You're pleading for Joan, but have you ever thought about how much I've lost because of my relationship with Harvey... Mr. Lynch, don't disturb my mother at her grave anymore, she has my father, and he loved her very much!"

Eloise gazed at Griffin. She tore the report into pieces very slowly and threw it into the trash bin. Growing up, only Angus was there for her. Griffin was never part of her childhood!

Griffin's face was drained of color, as he kept backing away. He looked at his own daughter, unable to believe how cold she could be. He had thought that after revealing her true identity, she could reconcile with Joan, and they might even have become close sisters. But in the end, that was just wishful thinking!

Eloise closed her eyes and murmured, "Mr. Lynch, please take Ms. Joan away, I will reserve the right to sue for now, and please take care of your daughter. Don't let her hurt others or herself anymore!"

"I am Eloise, I will always be Angus' daughter."

Eloise's heart was pounding like the ocean waves, and she was not emotionless. In just half a month, she had experienced the highs and lows of life, the unbearable pressure made her faint on the spot.
