Harvey stepped out of the private room. He was wearing a white shirt, smeared with blood—most of it Max's. He lit a cigarette in the corridor and puffed away in silence.
Though he despised Max, he had to admit that some of Max's words were true. His relationship with Eloise, seemingly equal, was, in reality, her making all the compromises. Due to their difference in background, he took her sacrifices for granted, never really considering them.
Max was right; he had hurt Eloise's feelings as a woman.
Harvey took a long drag on his cigarette. He was handsome and appeared noble, attracting many women.
In The Mirage Club, Max had a little mistress named Bella, who bore some resemblance to Eloise. She had once met Harvey briefly at an event. She felt that the way Harvey looked at her was different, so when she saw him again, she couldn't help but be drawn to him. Even if he wasn't interested in a long-term relationship, she'd be satisfied just to share his bed.
Bella was smitten.
She approached and lightly touched Harvey's handsome face. "Attorney Horigan, may I keep you company for a drink?"
Just how picky was Harvey? He hated unfamiliar women touching him. He downed some more drinks, then roughly shoved Bella away. Her slender body crashed into the opposite wall, causing her to cry out in pain.
The club manager rushed over after hearing the commotion.
It shouldn't have been a big deal, but when Harvey got a good look at her face, he was agitated. He kicked open the door of a private room and shoved Bella inside.
The manager hastily followed in to apologize. "Bella doesn't know any better, Attorney Horigan, please be lenient."
Harvey sat on the couch. He lowered his head, lit a cigarette, and inhaled silently, his dark eyes boring into Bella.
He was really handsome, and Bella felt her heart flutter under his gaze.
"Come here!" Harvey suddenly commanded.
Bella blushed, her heart rate sped up. She gathered her courage to approach him, wanting to touch Harvey, but the moment she saw him frown, she didn't dare try again. Instead, she lifted her pretty face for him to admire.
Harvey gently pinched her chin, scrutinizing her. She did bear some resemblance to Eloise.
The male manager thought Harvey had taken a liking to Bella, so he started to sell her to him. "Bella knows how to please a man. Attorney Horigan, you can try something with her and see for yourself."
Bella lightly bit her lower lip, a tempting gesture for men.
Harvey suddenly let her go. He wiped his palm with a wet tissue, saying coldly, "I have two pieces of advice for you. First, don't use your pretty face for such a lowly job, leave and find decent work! Second, if you really want to do this, then get plastic surgery, change your face completely... If I see you here again with that face, I'll make you disappear from this world!"
Bella was so scared that her legs became weak! The male manager was also frightened by his words. What a beautiful woman Bella was! How had she offended Mr. Horigan?
Harvey left a check and coldly said, "Peterborough is a big place. If I want someone to disappear, it's an easy thing to do!"
The male manager collapsed on the floor. He was also a smart man and quickly figured out why Harvey couldn't stand Bella. Her face was similar to his ex-girlfriend's.
In the manager's mind, rich people were so picky! They only slightly resembled each other, and Bella wasn't his woman. Why did he have to interfere with her life? Regardless, the manager sent Bella back to her hometown that night, hoping she would stay out of Peterborough, or she wouldn't be able to handle Harvey's wrath.
Harvey got drunk. Someone sent a driver to take him home, but he hesitated at the bottom of his apartment building. He didn't want to go up, because Eloise wasn't in the apartment upstairs.
He had always been a restrained man, rarely drinking to the point of losing control, but that night he vomited at the roadside. Once sober, he stood alone under a streetlight.
He remembered Eloise feeding a puppy here. She had left, and she even took the puppy. She left nothing for him!
All the teachers at Encore Soundworks congratulated her, even Vanessa from Switzerland called to celebrate. "Eloise, this is such a big deal. I really wish I could pop a bottle of champagne for you!"
Eloise cracked a small smile. "Then I'll just head over to Switzerland to celebrate with you!"
Vanessa tried to politely decline, saying there was no need for Eloise to go through all the trouble of traveling all the way to Switzerland. But, missing Eloise, Vanessa finally agreed. "I'll be waiting for you in Switzerland."
Eloise was in high spirits. She gave all the employees at Encore Soundworks a bonus, which made everyone extremely happy. Just then, her secretary came over and said, "Ms. Laurent, there's a Ms. Joan here to see you."
Ms. Joan...
Eloise's smile slowly faded. She told her secretary, "Please turn on the surveillance system in the meeting room and ask Ms. Joan to wait for me there."
Her secretary, sensing a tiff between them, swiftly carried out the orders.
Veronica happened to be there and asked Eloise, "Are you sure you want to see her?"
Eloise gave a small smile. She said, "Look at her attitude, do you think she's going to let me off easily? If I don't teach her a lesson, I'm afraid she'll keep annoying me. I'm not her dad, so I won't indulge her."
Veronica felt a pang of sympathy. She had heard everything from Landon and was so angry that she wanted to confront Harvey. But Eloise stopped her, saying there was no need to bring up the past, and if they were to cut ties, they should do it completely.
Worried, Veronica decided to accompany Eloise to see Joan. When they walked into the meeting room, they were both taken aback.
Early in the morning, Joan had the audacity to show up at Eloise's company in a hospital gown! If Veronica were in Eloise's shoes, she would have kicked Joan out ages ago!
Eloise sat across from Joan, smiling as she asked, "Ms. Joan, what brings you here?"
