Harvey paused for a moment. "Let's hold on to it for now. I haven't made up my mind yet."
The housekeeper cut in again, "What about that piano? You gave it to Ms. Laurent, I heard it's pretty pricey! Attorney Horigan, you don't play the piano either, are you planning to let Denise deal with it too?"
Harvey was at a loss for words.
"The piano is called Astral."
The housekeeper made a face, as she didn't understand these things.
Harvey's gaze landed on the Astral piano, and he was silent for a moment before whispering, "Let's keep it for now."
The housekeeper didn't ask any more questions.
She thought, “Ha, he can't let go of Ms. Laurent's things. Attorney Horigan obviously hasn't moved on. From my experienced perspective, it won't be long before Attorney Horigan will be crying and begging for a reunion.”
After the housekeeper figured this out, she straightened her back and went back to work.
Harvey was in a daze with his coffee cup...
...
In the following week, Harvey developed a bad habit, as he always bumped into Eloise after work.
Sometimes, it was places Eloise liked to go. Sometimes, it was the music bars and restaurants that Callum liked.
He didn't know Callum well, but their families had connections, so there was always a nodding acquaintance. Callum probably didn't play in their circle, so he didn't know anything about him and Eloise, but after a while, any man who wasn't completely dense would notice something was up.
Callum asked Eloise once. Eloise was a little taken aback, she thought Callum knew. But after she recovered, she admitted it, she said she had a thing with Harvey once.
After saying that, she looked at Callum. If Callum couldn't accept it, she wouldn't force it, after all, some men really care about it.
At that time, Callum didn't say anything. But when he dropped her off, he confessed in the car, "Eloise, if Harvey comes back to you, would you agree?"
“Men understand men. Harvey's bachelorhood is well known.” Callum thought, their break up was probably because of that.
“But recently Harvey has been hanging around Eloise”, Callum thought, “A proud man like that doing this, is probably too proud to let go and wants the woman to take the initiative to return to him.”
He wanted to know, would Eloise go back?
After asking, Callum stared at Eloise intensely.
Eloise leaned back in her seat. She looked back at Callum, they had been getting along quite well these days, it wasn't hot but it was warm, except for the kiss on the forehead on Christmas Eve, he never overstepped.
She knew Callum cherished her. She also cherished this relationship and wanted to take it seriously!
After a long time, Eloise spoke softly. "Callum, I'm serious."
Callum's tense nerves relaxed, no one knew how nervous he was just now. He knew he was good, his background and looks were not lacking, but he also knew that compared to Harvey, he was a bit bland.
Harvey's status and charm were obvious, as magazines even called Harvey a walking hormone! Callum was a bit insecure. Eloise's words reassured him a lot. He leaned over and kissed Eloise's cheek, his voice slightly hoarse, "It's only nine o'clock, can I come up and sit for a while?"
Eloise was fixing her hair. Earlier at the restaurant, a kid got some chocolate on her hair. Eloise smiled and said, "I need to wash my hair, I may not be able to make coffee for you."
Callum nodded courteously. Harvey turned to look at him, their understanding was mutual.
After a while, Harvey chuckled and nodded back. He didn't wait for Callum to get in the car, he left first. Callum watched the tail lights, his mind filled with complex emotions.
...
Harvey drove back to his crib. He shucked off his jacket, tossed it onto the couch, then planted himself in front of the piano. His slender fingers fell on the black and white keys, playing Piano Sonata No. 14 with his eyes closed - the tune Eloise would play most often around the house.
Harvey could play the piano, but he was no maestro. He never told Eloise because he didn't see the point. His plan was to date her for a while, maybe a year, maybe two, and then split amicably, leaving her with a fat check. But their relationship ended in less than two months.
Eloise didn't want his money. She just wanted out, to start fresh. She was with Callum now, looking happy, looking fulfilled.
It had been ten days... Ten days of Eloise and Callum together, ten days of Callum in her life. Were they about to take it to the next level soon?
The piano hummed low. Harvey just stared at the instrument.
He thought back. He had gifted Eloise that piano when they first got intimate. She had redecorated the whole place, beaming like a bride on her wedding day. She had no idea then that this was just how rich dudes take care of their girls.
He pampered her, pleased her. And in return, he got the ultimate sensory and physical pleasures. After all, when there's a smidge of emotion between two people, the intimate moments are different. Like when Eloise was in his arms, with eyes sparkling with love, Harvey felt something special.
So, would she look at Callum the same way?
No, hell no! Over his dead body!
Ten days, that was Harvey's limit...
