Damon couldn’t believe his eyes, and the others stared at the space with their jaws dropped to the ground. Up until now, they had struggled so much and withstood so much just to make a small hole that they could somehow use to get outside, but now a whole door was just like that, open for them to use?

"No. I mean it might move," Damon said. "Or vanish. Or self-destruct. Places like these don’t like staying open once their core’s breached. This might be a one-time thing. A single roll of the dice. And I’m not walking away from the jackpot because the snow looks nice."

Kate stepped forward. "You’re not wrong. But are you sure you can handle it right now? You’re almost out of mana. Your stamina’s gone. Your health bar is basically just flirting with the concept of life at this point."

Damon exhaled slowly, the fog of his breath swirling as he turned toward them fully. "That’s exactly why I need to go back in. I’ve already paid the price. I’ve been bled dry and broken open just to reach this room. If I leave now, then all that was for nothing."
