The attention was split between the screen and the woman who just asked the question.
One of the people at the table raised his hand, and the woman nodded, giving him permission to talk.
"Chief, from the study materials we have about the target, I believe that maintaining a closer relationship while not delving deeper into her matters would be helpful!"
"Why do you think so?"
"She looks like someone who wants to live leisurely, and with a lot of freedom. Rather than saying she is someone who seeks power and authority, she doesn’t seem like the kind. And with the kind of power she has, if we are to force her to do what she doesn’t want, I am afraid that we might suffer a loss."
"That’s true. She is just twenty-six years old and a grandmaster already. What if she isn’t just proficient in alchemy but martial arts as well? We don’t know how many forces she has in hiding out there. So, it’s better if we continue having the same relationship. We let her live peacefully in the country and we get the assistance we need.
If we handle her badly, we might end up in a deadly case. We can’t lose another talented person!"
"So far, she hasn’t done anything that demands us to take action. Without irritating her, I believe that we can live harmoniously!"
The female chief listened to her subordinates’ opinions one by one but didn’t say a thing for a while as she pondered on what was the best solution to deal with this stressful matter.
It was a sensitive matter, the kind that superiors were keeping an eye on for a while now.
Once they were done sharing their thoughts, she opened her mouth and responded, "We will maintain the relationship and for now, do everything in our power to make sure that she doesn’t deflect or migrate elsewhere," her tone was still icy as she looked at everyone as if sending a warning.
"With that said, don’t forget to process the land matter. It should be done by the 31st," the chief dropped another matter.
When the subordinates heard that, they couldn’t help but look at her with shock.
"Chief, this ... are you sure that we must do this?"
"Tche! Are you unwilling? Have you forgotten that was part of the deal or you don’t want to get what was promised?" the chief coldly asked the person who just raised that doubt.
Upon getting asked that, the other person shut his mouth and played dead. The chief, seeing that, nearly rolled her eyes but managed to not do so. She looked at the rest of the people and repeated what she had said earlier, before dismissing everyone.
Once everyone was gone, she looked at the smiling face on the projector and suddenly felt sour.
She had always believed that she was someone with a talent for someone her age.
She was about to turn thirty years old and was the chief, the leader of the supernatural ability organization.
The organization was created centuries ago when the first founder came across the matter of cultivation and superpowers.
