Seven Years a Shadow: The Stand-In's Escape novel Chapter 65

“Isla, I know you love me.”

“But this time, you really went too far, and I’m not happy about it.”

“If you cut ties with Jennifer, transfer all your assets to me, I might consider forgiving you.”

Charlie’s words were shocking.

They made me laugh.

And they made Isla speechless.

She looked at him disdainfully and asked, “You, forgive me?”

“How dare you say that?”

“Don’t think I don’t know, you married me for my wealth.”

“I, Isla, am not blind. There’s no way I would be interested in someone as useless as you, with a heart as vile as a wolf’s.”

“Instead of being so full of yourself, maybe you should think about how to save your Carter Group!”

Isla spoke directly, giving the most honest and sharp words.

Charlie’s face turned red with anger.

If it weren’t for Isla’s background and power, he would have punched her by now.

Daniel, on the other hand, tightened up and asked warily.

“What do you mean by ‘save Carter Group’?”

“What’s this about saving Carter Group?!”

Olivia also looked confused. “Our Carter Group is doing just fine, why talk about saving it?”

“Stop cursing us!”

Seeing that they were still so foolish and confident, I couldn’t help but sneer.

“You’ll find out soon enough.”

As soon as I finished speaking, Charlie received a call from his assistant.

“Mr. Carter, all our suppliers have suddenly stopped answering!”

“Our partners are demanding the goods, but we don’t have anything to deliver!”

Charlie frowned, “Then go to other channels and get the goods!”

“We’ll pay a premium, just get some goods to buy us some time!”

The assistant urgently replied, “We tried, but no one is willing to sell to us!”

“All the channels have been swallowed up by Isla’s people!”

“Now, our partners are all buying from her.”

“And there’s not a penny in our account!”

“Right now, Carter Group is facing huge penalties and a massive deficit.”

“The company is going bankrupt!”

As the assistant spoke, a large group of people barged into the hotel.

They were all there to demand their wages and penalties from Charlie.

In less than a minute, Daniel, Olivia, and Charlie went from being admired billionaires to bankrupt pariahs.

Now, they were finally panicked.

Daniel’s eyes were wide with rage, and he yelled at me.

“Jennifer, you really played us with your schemes?”

“How disgusting can you be?!”

Charlie was pinned down by the debt collectors, screaming at me.

“Jennifer, get this fixed right now!”

“Or I’ll never forgive you!”

Hearing this, I couldn’t help but laugh. I had only fueled his misplaced confidence.

I looked at him and said word by word.

“Your forgiveness? I don’t care about that.”

I smiled lightly, replying.

“That would have been too easy on you.”

“I wanted to raise you to the highest point, so you’d know how much it hurts when you fall.”

“The higher you climb, the worse your fall will be.”

My tone was calm, but the words were stunning, leaving everyone speechless.

Only now did they realize I wasn’t foolish; I was playing a grand game of human nature.

Charlie collapsed on the ground, dazed.

Olivia and Daniel were stunned.

It was only now that they realized all their scheming had been transparent to me.

I, the one they’d toyed with for years, had been the one controlling their fate all along.

Under the shocked gaze of everyone, I turned coldly and left.

Isla followed me.

Later, I heard that Olivia and the others sold everything they had but couldn’t repay the money.

In the end, Charlie was beaten and killed in the wilderness after selling all his organs.

Daniel, cornered by debt, jumped off a building.

Olivia was sold, disappearing as though she’d never existed.

And I, returned to my villa.

Isla handed me the gold lock I had once sent out.

“Mom, I’ve been wondering, why did you give your family heirloom to those ungrateful people?”

I smiled faintly.

“Because it’s the White family’s heirloom.”

“Giving it to them was just a symbol of my determination to take everything back.”
