Seven Years a Shadow: The Stand-In's Escape novel Chapter 29

It had been two years since Eliza Vance donated her corneas to Benson Moore. To impress his first love, he personally dropped Eliza off at the nightclub.

That night, as Benson wrapped his arms around his sweetheart, he coldly eyed Eliza endure humiliation and ridicule on stage.

Later, he tied Eliza to the bedroom door and sneered. "Eliza, you're nothing but a dog. You were three years ago, and you still are. Do you really think I'll marry you? I just wanted your corneas. I'd bet you'd give them to me."

Benson laughed maniacally. "I win."

Eliza leaned hopelessly against the door, feeling as if there was not a single ray of light left in her world.

She fumbled for her phone and sent a message to her research supervisor. "Mr. Valdez, I'm willing to implant the super chip to erase my memories and become a confidential researcher."

At that moment, Eliza lost all her hope.

From then on, there would be no Benson in her life.

...

In the room, the bed was rocking violently.

The sound of a woman's moans mixed with a man's hurried breaths sent shocks through Eliza's nerves.

Three years ago, to satisfy lustful Benson, Eliza had abandoned her sense of shame. Even when she was exhausted, she forced a smile and complied.

Little did she know that her humble and enduring love would lead Benson to compare her to the women at the nightclub.

With her eyes downcast, she whispered, "Yes."

Benson's expression darkened as he tightened his grip on Eliza's chin. "You really are a bitch. Since you want it so badly, I'm going to make sure you enjoy it today."

He roughly tossed her onto the bed.

Isolde was about to speak when Benson shouted angrily at her, "Get out!"

Isolde didn't dare argue but quickly grabbed her clothes, scurrying out.

The moment the door slammed shut, Eliza's anguished screams echoed in the room.

Ignoring Eliza's struggles, Benson violently ripped at her clothes. "You're blind and still want to seduce other men. I really underestimated you."

Tears welled up in Eliza's eyes. She bit her lip hard, refusing to make a sound.

Two years ago, Benson had gotten into a car accident that nearly claimed his life.

She had passed out on the spot, and when she opened her eyes, Benson was permanently blind.

During that time, he refused to eat and threatened to commit suicide, landing in the emergency room over ten times.

Eliza loved him deeply and couldn't bear to see him destroy himself. She couldn't even imagine what would happen if he died.

So, she donated her corneas to Benson.

How could there be so many glass shards when someone cleaned every day?

Isolde glared at Eliza, cruelty in her eyes as she walked over and stomped down on Eliza's hand.

Eliza gasped as pain shot through her palm.

She tried to pull her hand away, but Isolde pressed down harder. "I heard you used to be an artist. Now that you're blind, you might as well ruin those hands."

Painting had been Eliza's dream, and she hadn't given it up even after losing her sight. Just last month, she won an online award. Her hands couldn't be ruined.

Eliza struggled to push Isolde's foot away. "I've done nothing wrong to you. You..."

Isolde let out a mocking laugh. "Well, we both love the same man, making us enemies. Eliza, let's make a bet. Even if I really ruin your hand, Benson will still side with me."

Eliza clenched her teeth, pulling her hand from under Isolde's foot in defeat, "You won. Benson doesn't love me anymore."

Actually, he never did. Everything was just me dreaming; I had it coming.

Isolde smirked triumphantly, "Then I win, and you're punished by rolling down the stairs."

With that, she yanked Eliza's hair and dragged her across the floor covered in glass.

Sharp shards tore at Eliza's clothes and skin, causing her to break into a cold sweat from the searing pain.

She fought back, trying to grab Isolde's hand, but the next second, Isolde kicked her down the stairs.
