Seven Years a Shadow: The Stand-In's Escape novel Chapter 22

My mentor pushed up his glasses.

"Uh..."

He considered his words carefully, choosing the most diplomatic approach.

"This is an important test result. The hospital can't afford to make a mistake."

Before he could finish, Henry grew furious.

"If you're so concerned about mistakes, why are you letting South change the results? You'd better give me a satisfactory explanation, or I'll sue your department!"

I entered the scene just in time to witness this.

Henry charged toward me, but my mentor quickly got up, yanked him away, and shouted, "Call security!"

Yuna quickly forced a smile.

"Doctor, my brother is just very upset. Please help me fix the results. We won't blame South for the changes. I'm just really anxious; my flight's at 11 PM."

My mentor frowned and looked at me.

"Didn't you tell her about the results in advance?"

I crossed my arms.

"I left the test report with them, but it looks like they didn't look at it."

Yuna's smile instantly froze.

My colleagues, now gathered around me, protectively patted my stomach and whispered,

"After everything they've done to you, you're still wondering whether you should donate bone marrow to them."

"You must be a reincarnation of a bodhisattva. Why would you risk your life to save someone so heartless?"

Yuna stumbled back and collapsed into a chair.

Only Henry remained angrily ranting.

"Well, South, you're even using your colleagues to deceive us. Just wait, your whole department is going down, everyone is going to be held accountable."

His threats were ignored by everyone in the office.

Because Yuna was now clutching her nose, which was bleeding.

One drop.

Two drops.

Quietly falling onto her pristine white dress.

Yuna completely panicked.

Her eyes went red with fear and anger as she tried to cover the bloodstains on her dress.

She looked up at me in horror and fury.

"It's you! You did this!"

No one responded.

Everyone's gaze towards her held a trace of sympathy.

And that was when she completely broke down, tears streaming down her face.

Security was called in to drag her out of the office.

Yuna didn't make it to the overseas tour.

He then suggested that they organize family and friends willing to donate bone marrow to get tested, to see if a match could be found.

Sean eagerly extended his arm.

"Test mine. It's my own daughter; I'm sure I'm a match. I'll donate."

The mentor glanced silently at me.

Sean followed his gaze and awkwardly pressed his fist to his lips upon seeing me.

I flipped through the folder and began to read the potential risks of bone marrow donation, as was routine.

After finishing, I looked at Sean steadily.

"Given how risky bone marrow donation is, are you still willing to go through with it?"

"Do you want to lose your wife as well, after donating?"

Sean's face flushed.

But he still stubbornly turned his face away.

"I'll donate!"

I sarcastically tugged at the corner of my mouth, then directed my gaze to the East family standing behind him—Yuna and her mother.

Yuna was the one who was unashamed.

"No need to talk further, I'll donate."

"There's no helping it, I'm double-standard like this. Of course, you can't compare with my sister here."

"Are you in too?" I asked my mother.
