Before he could react, I continued, “Gavin, let’s get a divorce.”
When he heard the final sentence—“Gavin is just my dog”—his face drained of all color. He stood there, stunned, completely frozen.
Gavin, with a face full of regret, murmured, “How could this happen? So everything Susan said was a lie?”
I sneered, my eyes full of mockery. “Yes, only you would be foolish enough to believe her, over and over again abandoning your wife and daughter for them.”
It wasn’t until much later that he seemed to finally come to his senses.
He looked at me in disbelief, repeatedly asking, “What did you just say?
Divorce? What divorce? Wendy, are you joking with me?”
I just looked at him indifferently. “I’m not joking with you. With your actions, you don’t deserve to be a father.”
Gavin panicked. “I’m sorry. I never expected Susan to be such a person behind my back.”
“Moreover, I don’t have any feelings for her anymore. The only reason I’ve been taking care of her and her son is out of respect for my late brother…”
Thinking about the truth I had just learned, Gavin’s face showed despair, and his voice even carried a hint of pleading. “Wendy, can you give me another chance? I promise I’ll cut ties with them…”
I shook my head and spoke softly, “I’ve given you many chances, but you never cherished them.”
As soon as I finished speaking, Gavin’s body stiffened, as if all his strength had been drained from him.
But a moment later, he seemed to think of something and hoarsely asked, “Wendy, if we divorce, what about Yara?”
Before I could respond, Gavin continued talking to himself, “Yara is still so young. We should give her a complete family…”
When I saw Yara walk out of the room, Gavin’s eyes lit up, as if he had grabbed onto the last life-saving straw.
“Yara, please help Daddy persuade Mommy not to divorce Daddy, okay?”
Yara shook her head and responded in her clear, childish voice, “No.”
I protected Yara behind me and sneered, “When you called yourself another child’s father, did you ever think about Yara?”
“When you left us at the amusement park, did you think about Yara?”
“When she had a high fever, where were you?”
Susan’s soft voice came through the phone: “What should I do, Gavin? Harry just said he’s not feeling well. Can you come over…?”
If it had been in the past, Gavin would have been unable to control his inner anxiety and would have rushed to grab his keys and drive there immediately.
But this time, the recording kept replaying in his mind, and a trace of disgust surged inside him. He coldly said, “If he’s sick, take Harry to the hospital. Why call me?”
“Gavin, what’s wrong with you?” Susan was stunned on the other end.
In the past, every time she used this trick, no matter what Gavin was dealing with, he would immediately rush over to her.
Could it be that…
She gritted her teeth and then dropped a heavy bomb: “If Chad were here, he would be so heartbroken seeing Harry like this…”
Sure enough, once she mentioned Chad’s name, Gavin fell silent for a moment and quickly agreed to go.
When Gavin arrived, he heard voices coming from the room.
He hesitated for a moment, not immediately pushing the door open.
