Dominic’s POV

I was paralyzed. I couldn’t move my face. My hands. Not even a twitch in my fingers. I was locked inside my own body, wide awake, every breath a quiet battle against the weight dragging me down. My vision blurred at the edges, but I could see the doctor hovering above me, his voice muffled, calm in a way that made me want to rip his throat out.

“The sedative they used… it’s strong,” he was saying. “Meant for military operation It’ll take some time to wear off naturally.”

Time.

Time I didn’t have.

I grunted, trying to force my lips to move. Nothing. Just a dry hiss through clenched teeth.

Aria.

The name pounded through my skull louder than my own heartbeat. I needed to say it. Needed to shout it. But all I could

do was lie there like a corpse while the woman I–damn it–the woman I loved was in the hands of a traitor.

The door opened.

Luca stepped in, eyes grim.

“She’s gone,” he said quietly. “Aria’s been taken.”

The room tilted.

I wanted to scream. Wanted to rip through the restraints on my body and tear the world apart.

“We confirmed it,” Luca continued. “Nico’s men. They planned the breach from both ends. The estate was the distraction. She was the target as well as assess to the safe.”

The doctor frowned. “He shouldn’t be under stress-”

“Shut up,” I growled. The words came out broken, like glass scraping against stone, but it was enough.

Both men turned to me in surprise.

Luca moved closer, kneeling beside me. “She was the one thing you wanted to keep out of this war. You sent her away to protect her… and he still took her.”

I stared up at the ceiling. The chandelier above me blurred and doubled. Every heartbeat brought pain.

“I know it ended bad between you two,” Luca went on. “And maybe she did kiss him. But Dominic… come on.”

He looked away for a moment, then back at me, voice lower now.

“You love her.”

I tried to move my mouth again. Every muscle screamed. But slowly achingly–my lips parted.

“I would…” I rasped, breath catching, “…burn the world to see her safe again.”

Luca didn’t speak.

Not until the doctor said, “That fluid takes another eight to ten hours to fully flush from his system. His heart rate’s still recovering. If we push him, he could arrest.”

“Then push me,” I snapped.

The doctor paled. “That would be an overdose, Dominic. You could die.”

I growled from deep in my chest. “My woman is in danger. I’m not lying in this fucking bed while someone else touches her.”

“Dominic-”

“I don’t care about your protocol!”

“I can’t do it,” the doctor said firmly. “It’s against every line in the book.”

Then a new voice broke in.

Julian,

“I’ll do it.”

We all turned as he stepped through the doorway, his expression a mixture of fury and something sharper.

Successfully unlocked!

“If you trust me,” Julian said, coming to my side, “I can mobilize the men. Find her. Pinpoint her location.”

He looked down at me.

“But if you’re fully up, Dominic if you can move you can do what you do best. You can save her. Be her knight in shining armor, the dark avenger she never stopped looking for.”

He crossed his arms, tone harder now.

“But if you can’t… maybe I will.”

I couldn’t turn my head to look at him and that pissed me off. Everything pissed me off. The weight in my limbs, the burn behind my eyes, the way my own body felt like a cage.

But more than anything, him saying that.

Like it wasn’t already tearing me apart. Like the thought of Aria with Nico–scared, hurt, alone–wasn’t already splitting me in two.

I forced my jaw to clench. Forced my throat to work.

And through sheer will, I got the words out.

“I’m… trusting you, Julian,”

My voice was hoarse, cracked, barely above a whisper but it landed with the weight u wanted.

Julian’s brows lifted slightly, like I’d punched him straight in the chest. Then his mouth curved into the faintest smile. “You should’ve a long time ago,” he said, stepping closer.

He reached out and patted my shoulder. Not gently. Not with pity. Just firm, steady. Like a brother reminding me I wasn’t out of this fight yet.

“I’ll get the men moving. I already pulled every camera around the estate perimeter and cross–checked recent movements. They wouldn’t have gone that far yet.”

He looked back at the doctor. “You’ve got twenty minutes. Do what you can without killing him. Then we move.”

The doctor hesitated. “Julian-”

“Do it.”

Julian turned to me again, eyes sharp.

“You have one job, Dom. Get up. Walk. And stop treating her like trash.”

Then he was gone, the door shutting behind him with a final thud that echoed through my chest like a warning.

I stared at the ceiling, jaw tight.

Stop treating her like trash.

He wasn’t wrong. I had pushed her away. Crushed her with silence and turned my love into a cage. I told myself I was protecting her, but the truth was uglier. I didn’t want to see her walk away before I gave her the chance.

And now? She was gone anyway.

Because I was too busy playing goddamn chess with emotions I never learned how to hold.

The doctor moved beside me again. “I can push something stronger. Nothing illegal but it’ll be rough. You’ll be shaking, disoriented. It won’t last long.”

“Do it,” I growled, lips barely forming the words. “Do anything, I don’t fucking care.”

He nodded, pulling out a syringe. “This will wake the nervous system, but you’ll feel like you’re moving through fire. I’ll need to monitor your vitals. If your heart rate spikes-”

“I don’t care,” I said. “Push it and stop talking.”

The needle slid into my vein.
