Chapter 170
But if something went wrong and the Bennett Family traced it back to the Jenkins family, Sofia could always claim she was just acting as a mother for Xavier’s sake.
No matter how things played out, Lydia would always come out unscathed.
Sofia thought, ‘With scheming like that, Lydia is not just some simple, innocent girl. But everyone in Cloudridge knows she is supposed to be sweet and pure-that is exactly why the whole family spoils her rotten. Now, the Bennett Family sure is interesting.
She had a hunch there was going to be no shortage of drama in the Bennett Family from now on. She figured she might be able to cash in on the chaos herself.
Sofia, feeling quite pleased with herself, put her phone away and was just about to take another sip of coffee when she suddenly sensed something off. She whipped her head toward the door.
The door was slightly ajar, not a soul in sight, but Sofia’s instincts screamed that someone was lurking just out of view.
What Sofia had told Lydia wasn’t just talk-she did have some underworld connections, all earned back in her wild youth. That’s also where she picked up her sharp instincts. Even at home, she’d secretly set up plenty of surveillance, just in case.
She pulled up the security footage and, just as she suspected, someone had been standing right outside the door the whole time, eavesdropping on her call. It was none other than her so-called only son, Xavier.
The camera was perfectly positioned to capture Xavier’s face, and every expression was crystal clear.
One look at him, and Sofia could practically read his mind. That was exactly why she favored Xavier over his twin brother, Jackson.
Xavier was scheming, ambitious, and easy to control-nowhere near as sharp as his twin brother Jackson.
Sofia had been racking her brain over how to protect herself if she went through with the deal with Lydia, but now, with Xavier practically delivering himself to her doorstep, the answer had just fallen right into her lap.
She thought, ‘Looks like luck really is on my side.
Xavier tiptoed away from the study door, completely clueless that he’d just been played like a fiddle. He was still secretly congratulating himself, thinking he’d lucked out and finally gotten some dirt on Sofia.
Back when he’d deliberately cozied up to Emily, he’d already noticed-sure, the Bennett Family didn’t care much about Emily, but as soon as anything about her touched the Bennett Family’s interests, they’d start caring real quick.
Xavier thought, ‘No matter what kind of deal Sofia has going with Lydia, as long as Sofia makes a move against Emily, I would use it to sic the Bennett Family on Sofia.
Everyone had their own schemes, but the one they were all secretly plotting against was Emily.
Emily was completely in the dark about all of this. She was holding a file in her hands as she once again made her way to Shandell High School.
As the most prestigious private school in Cloudridge, Shandell High had an immaculate honor wall on display right inside
the main entrance.
Emily’s photo used to be up there, too. But after word got out about her plagiarism in college, her picture was quietly taken down and replaced with someone she didn’t even recognize.
