Chapter 162
The sudden jolt of pain made Andrew’s face change, and he instinctively let go, getting shoved back two steps.
Austin took Emily’s hand and calmly dusted off his collar. He said, “People say the Bennett Family is the most powerful family in Cloudridge, but I never thought their heir could be this brainless.
“You say Emily’s money comes from other men-did you ever bother to check? Got any proof? If you’re just making stuff up with no evidence, better watch out-I might just sue you for slander.
“And about that kidnapping, since you found out I’m a mystery man coming from nowhere, you should also know that I met Emily during that kidnapping incident.
“You got that far, but if you’d looked a little closer, you’d know whether or not Emily staged it herself. But you didn’t check a thing-just jumped to blame her.
“So, is it that you never cared about her at all, or are you just plain brainless?”
Andrew’s face twisted in anger at Austin’s barrage of questions. He shot back, “Who says I didn’t check? The kidnappers themselves said it-they were paid to fake-kidnap Emily and put on a show.”
Because of what Bob said, and with Lucas also saying they might have misunderstood Emily, Andrew specifically had someone look into it.
Even though the kidnappers got away in the end, he still got a clear answer from them-the whole kidnapping was just an
act.
It was because he was so sure Emily was treating the kidnapping like a joke again, and it brought back memories of the past, that he came over so angrily to confront her.
Faced with his ironclad accusations, Emily didn’t even bat an eye.
The kidnapping was indeed an act, but the one behind it all was Xavier. His tricks weren’t even that clever-if Andrew cared to look, he could’ve found out the truth easily.
Emily thought, ‘He pins it on me simply because he couldn’t be bothered to care.’
As Emily was quietly mocking herself, Austin suddenly gave her hand a gentle squeeze. That soft touch made her feel strangely at ease.
In the past, whenever the Bennett Family brought their storms, whether she stayed calm or felt hurt, Emily always had to bear it alone. But now, with Austin standing by her side, it felt almost like a dream.
