Chapter 153

“Lucas,” Lydia called out, trying to stop him, but Lucas didn’t even look back and took off at full speed.

Lydia fumed inwardly, ‘Damn it. What is up with Lucas today? First, he comes over to confront and doubt me, and now he runs after Emily right in front of my face. Where did things go wrong?’

Lydia’s face was clouded with anger, and with her current messy, disheveled look, she was like a demon out for blood. She thought, ‘No matter where things have gone wrong, I will never let Emily steal everything that belonged to me!

She thought for a moment, then opened her phone’s camera. She put on her most pitiful look, making sure her slapped, swollen face was front and center for the camera, then snapped a photo.

In the photo, she looked like a helpless little lamb who had been bullied and was just waiting for someone to step in and protect her.

She sent the photo to Andrew. Before she could even send a voice message, his voice messages started blowing up her phone one after another.

Sounding concerned, Andrew said, “What happened? Who bullied you? Lydia, don’t be scared. I’m coming back right now to stand up for you. Seriously, what’s going on? Who did this to you?”

Before Lydia could even reply, Andrew started a video call.

As soon as the call connected, Lydia’s tear-streaked, pitiful face popped up on the screen-she looked every bit the damsel in distress.

Andrew was beside himself with worry. He blurted out, “Lydia, who did this to you? Tell me, and I’ll make them pay for it.”

On the video call, Andrew looked completely flustered. He shot to his feet and rushed out in a panic. From the background, it looked like he’d just stormed out of a conference room, leaving all the company execs sitting there, totally baffled.

Those execs thought, ‘From what Mr. Bennett said, it sounds like Ms. Bennett has just been bullied by someone. But in Cloudridge, who would dare mess with Ms. Bennett?

‘And we are right in the middle of a crucial meeting. He just bailed on us to go stand up for Ms. Bennett. Isn’t that a bit much? When he was doting on his other sister, he never acted like this.

The executives exchanged glances, all thinking the same thing, but no one said a word.

On the other end of the video call, Lydia’s tears welled up instantly. She broke down and wailed, “Andrew. It’s all my fault. I just thought Grandpa was healthy enough to handle it, so I insisted the waiter tell the truth.

“But I never imagined Emily would get so angry. She even brought back some fake video and said I bribed the waiter.” Even while bawling her eyes out, she managed to explain the whole story in perfect detail.

Andrew’s face fell instantly. He thought, ‘Emily, again. He’d always felt guilty for hurting Emily because of that misunderstanding, and had been keeping his distance from her lately.

He thought, ‘She has no sense of gratitude at all. How could she go after Lydia like this? This time, I am definitely not going to let her get away with it.’

He said, “Lydia, don’t worry. I’ll make sure you get justice.”

Lydia’s tears finally subsided, but she still gazed at Andrew through the screen with that pitiful look. She said, “Really? Andrew, you’re so sweet to me. You’re honestly my favorite person in the whole world.”
