Chapter 122

The moment the words left his mouth, Lucas regretted them. He knew Emily always compared herself to Lydia, trying to outdo her, and he had spoken without thinking. He thought, ‘I didn’t mean to say that.

Emily’s face grew even tighter, her hand unconsciously clenching at her side. She always knew that in the eyes of the Bennett family, she would never compare to Lydia. But hearing those words come directly from Lucas felt like a needle piercing her heart.

Suppressing the turmoil within her, she said, “Please escort Mr. Bennett out.”

Lucas shouted, “What? You can’t… Don’t push me, let go. Do you know who I am?”

Despite Lucas mentioning his identity, the doctors and nurses directly pushed him out. His shouting attracted curious glances, with many taking him for a troublemaker.

Lucas had never been subjected to such humiliation before, but beyond his fury, there wasn’t much he could do.

This hospital was owned by Charles, making it private property that even the Bennett family couldn’t intervene with. The staff were specifically instructed by Bob, so Lucas dared not cause trouble.

Moreover, they were only following Emily’s orders. ‘It’s all Emily’s fault,’ Lucas thought, feeling both aggrieved and enraged.

He thought, ‘I came all this way for Emily. If it turns out that we misunderstood the kidnapping situation, of course, I’ll seek justice for her. But she didn’t even appreciate it.’

Scratching his head in frustration, Lucas huffed angrily and stormed off. ‘I’ve already given her an olive branch, but Emily still wants to play hard to get. She’s truly ungrateful,’ he thought.

Because of Lucas’s appearance, Emily’s initially decent mood turned sour.

She had intended to take a nap but found herself unable to fall asleep. Frustrated, she decided to get up and take a walk for some fresh air. Unexpectedly, as soon as she walked out of the elevator, she ran into Austin.

“What are you doing here?” Emily asked in surprise.

Austin had been planning to greet her with a wide smile until his eyes caught sight of her swollen cheek and bandaged forehead. His expression’ immediately hardened. “Who did this?” The warm light in his eyes turned cold instantly.

Sensing the anger hidden within his three simple words, Emily’s previously irritable mood inexplicably lightened. “If you know who did it, are you planning to get revenge for me?” she asked in a teasing manner, as if she herself hadn’t been the one bullied.

Austin nodded earnestly. “Yes. Even if I can’t win, I’ll find another way to get revenge for you.”

His sincere response caught Emily off guard, making her forced smile falter slightly.

She would have preferred him saying he wouldn’t, or brushing it off with some casual remarks, rather than stating so genuinely that he would seek revenge, even knowing he might not win. She feared she might take him seriously.
