Chapter 8
With that, he pulled Adelaide inside and closed the door behind
them.
Adelaide wriggled free from his grip and said in a low voice,
“Alright, you’re in. So, what do you really want from me?”
Spencer saw two suitcases in the hallway leading to the
bedroom and frowned. “You’re still planning to move in with
Garrett?”
Adelaide’s lips curled a bit. So, he had come to bat for Amanda.
Growing up together as siblings? They weren’t even related by
blood!
“Yeah. I just tied the knot with him yesterday. If we get divorced right away, we’ll be the laughingstock.”
“If that’s what you’re worried about, don’t sweat it. I’ve got you
covered. I’ll make sure nobody gets a chance to make fun of you,” Spencer said, his face relaxing into a reassuring
expression.
Adelaide looked up at him suspiciously. A crazy thought zipped through her mind. “Are you gonna tell everyone that it was Amanda who got married to Garrett?”
Spencer was silent.
Adelaide felt like her heart was ripped to pieces.
Even after the Pierce family found out she wasn’t one of them and started treating her differently, she still remembered how they had taken care of her. Spencer had never changed his attitude toward her, so she respected him the most.

and gently persuaded her, “Adele, Garrett doesn’t deserve
someone as wonderful as you. You can have so much better.
Trust me, divorce him. I’ve arranged everything abroad. Once
you’re divorced, I’ll take you there to relax and stay for a good
long time.”
At the thought of being sent abroad, Adelaide lost it.
She pushed Spencer away with all her might, her eyes
bloodshot and tears streaming down her face. “Are you guys
out of your minds? It was your enemies who mixed me up with
Amanda! What does that have to do with me?!
“I kept offering to leave on my own, but you wouldn’t let me! Now, for Amanda, you wanna send me abroad! Do you see me as some object, something you can take or toss as you please?!”
“How can you think of us like this?” Spencer said softly. “You’ve
always been part of our family.”
“Bullshit! Cut the act! Family, huh? Knowing Garrett is my
husband, how could you all stand there last night and do
nothing while Amanda was in his arms?!
“Ever since last night, you’ve been badmouthing him and pushing me to divorce. Spencer, look yourself in the eye and tell
me, are you doing this for my own good, or for your own
sister?!”
Spencer paused, almost blurting out something but then
stopped himself. He stepped forward, still speaking gently, “I
know you’re upset, but I promise you, I’ll make up for it in a big
