Chapter 214
Are you even listening to me?‘ my father pressed.
I raised the glass and downed the wine in one swallow. The rich flavor was wasted on me. I set the empty glass down and stood up.
My father’s brow furrowed. ‘Where are you going?”
‘Don’t worry about it, Dad.”
I headed for the door, but his voice stopped me before I could leave.
“I saw how you looked at her at the pack gathering,” he said. “There’s no use denying your feelings to your father. I know my son. And I don’t regret putting you two together because of the prophecy, because I knew Lysandra was a good girl. She was your best Luna.”
I turned back to face him, the truth hovering on my lips. You’re right. I regret everything I did to hurt her. I’ve never met a woman as strong or as loyal as Lysandra. The truth is, I–I love her. I’ve always fucking loved her but was too stupid and stubborn to admit it.
“I regr-
A knock at the door cut me off. Varian stood in the doorway, holding my phone.
“It’s Dr. Rylan,” he said.
I realized I’d forgotten to take my phone with me. My father walked toward us, clearly wanting to hear the truth. There was uncertainty in his eyes. I wondered why he was so doubtful about Selene’s story.
“Put it on speaker,” I instructed.
Varian accepted the call and activated the speaker function. “Alpha,” Rylan’s voice came through.
“Go ahead.” The room fell silent. Varian and my father stared at the phone screen.
“Alpha, I’ve reviewed all the records and reports.”
“And? What did you find?” I prompted.
“Alpha, there was indeed a girl named Selene admitted to the pack hospital. But not on the day you mentioned. She was brought in the day after. Her right hand was severely broken. When she arrived at the hospital, her body was covered with countless scars. She was in very poor condition. It appeared she had been enduring pain for a long time.”
I clenched my fist, anger toward her attackers surging through me again. I glanced at my father, who seemed perplexed. He noticed my gaze and looked up at me.
“What else?” I asked Rylan, not breaking eye contact with my father.
“She was an orphan. So, no one signed as her family.”
I watched my father’s expression soften. I gritted my teeth and turned away. He shouldn’t have brought this up. It was going to haunt me all
over again.
“I understand,” I said.
“There’s one more thing, Alpha,” Rylan continued. “The former chief physician treated her personally. There’s a note in her report.”
“Go on.”

Chapter 214
*Her physical condition was fragile. Due to the broken hand, she couldn’t hold anything heavy or play any mustest instrument with that hand.
I ended the call. I couldn’t bear to hear any more.
“Did you hear what Dr. Rylan said?‘ I demanded of my father. “Did you hear what she went through to save your son?“
