Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 179

The next day, three guards burst into the room without knocking, their expressions hard and unfamiliar. The tallest one stepped forward, hand resting on his holstered weapon.

Alpha’s calling for all of you. Now.The command came out harsh, as if they were addressing criminals rather than the family of their former leader.

I glanced at my family my parents huddled together on the small sofa, my barely conscious brother on the hospital bed, and my twins, their faces streaked with dried tears.

Lyra clutched her stuffed wolf tighter, fresh tears welling in her eyes. Mommy, what’s happening?

Orion stood protectively in front of his sister, his small face creased in confusion. Mom, Uncle Alaric’s still sleeping. Who are they talking about? Who’s Alpha?

I knelt down to his eye level, my heart breaking at having to explain this. Our Alpha has changed, Orion.

Changed? But who’s the new Alpha?

One of the guards Davis, who’d served our family for over a decade shifted uncomfortably, refusing to meet my gaze. The third guard slammed his fist against the doorframe.

Are you deaf? We don’t have all day to wait on the former Alpha’s family. Get moving.

My mother helped my father to his feet while I gathered the twins close, trying to shield them from the guardshostility. As we filed out of the room, I caught Davis’s eye for a split second before he looked away.

People are right,I muttered. Time and power change everything.

The living room had transformed overnight. Furniture rearranged, paintings removed, and at the center of it all, Tristan sat on what had been my brother’s favorite chair. His posture appeared relaxed, but his fingers drummed a restless rhythm on the armrest, betraying his tension.

When he saw us enter, he straightened slightly. His eyes flickered over my parents before landing on the twins, his breathing catching for a fraction of a second before he masked it with a cold smile.

My father stepped forward, his voice remarkably steady despite the tremble in his legs. You summoned us, Alpha.

Tristan leaned back, deliberately casual. It’s time to say goodbye to Ravencroft Manor and everyone in the pack, Mr. Ravencroft.

The blunt statement hung in the air like a physical blow. My father’s face paled, but he held his ground.

Why are you doing this? You have no right to hurt us this way.

Why am I doing this?Tristan’s voice remained eerily calm, but his eyes flashed dangerously. Mrs. Ravencroft, instead of asking me for answers, perhaps you should ask yourselves.

My mother stepped forward, hands clasped tightly to keep them from shaking. Is this about the meeting? My son was naive, he was angry about what you did to my daughter-

I only want my children, Tristan cut her off, his gaze shifting to Orion and Lyra who halfhid behind me. The rest of you can go to hell.Despite the harsh words, his fingers flexed and unclenched, a flicker of something complicated passing across his face.

You can’t separate them from their mother,my father argued, voice rising with rare anger. They need her.

And what about their father?Tristan countered, his voice dropping lower, threaded with barely controlled emotion. Don’t you think they need their father too? I should have been there from the day they were bornHe paused, jaw tightening. I still can’t believe you had the audacity

to hide my children in your pack for years.

I touched my father’s arm, feeling his muscles tense beneath my fingers. Dad, don’t engage with him. He has no respect. I don’t want you humiliated because of him.

But my father couldn’t back down. You’ll destroy those children if you separate them from their mother. They’re too young-*

Enough.Tristan stood up in one fluid motion. The room temperature seemed to drop several degrees as he moved toward us.

As he approached the twins, I noticed something shift in his demeanor. His stride, initially confident and aggressive, slowed, becoming almost tentative. He knelt down a few feet away from them, as if afraid they might bolt if he came too close.

Would you two like to live with me? With your father? His voice softened to a gentleness I’d never heard from him before.

Lyra peeked out from behind me, her eyes wide. Fafather?

She turned to me, confusion written across her delicate features. Mommy, is that true? Is he our daddy?

Before I could answer, Tristan cut in. Don’t ask her. She’s a liar.

The accusation stabbed through me, all the more painful because I couldn’t deny it. I had lied to everyone, including my children.

Tristan focused entirely on Lyra now, his expression gentling. I’ll take you away from here. You’ll live like princesses and princes. You won’t have to hide from the world anymore. As he spoke, genuinetenderness crept into his eyes, so at odds with the cold fury he’d directed at me earlier.

Lyra stuck out her lower lip. No, my mommy isn’t a liar.

Really? One eyebrow arched. Then ask her if I’m lying.

Mommy?Lyra’s trusting eyes turned to me, filled with doubt for the first time.

I felt tears slip down my cheeks, unable to speak past the lump in my throat. How could I explain five years of deception to a fiveyearold? How could I make her understand why I’d kept them from their father when I wasn’t even sure anymore?

My silence was answer enough. Tristan’s expression held no triumph, only a strange mixture of vindication and pain.
