Chapter 178
Darius shook his head firmly. “You’ve got it all wrong. Being a chief Alpha and an ordinary Alpha are completely different. Becoming a chief Alpha requires years of training. They can bear all the responsibilities of the pack. Otherwise, why do you think people trust their lives to them and sacrifice themselves for them?”
His words hit home. Despite my wolf’s size and power, I lacked training. In any war, fighting skills mattered more than size.
“Listen, Gamma Darius,” I said, securing the bandage. “I know my brother was wrong. You don’t need to remind me. But by winning the pack, your Alpha isn’t doing any better. He’s about to kick me and my family out of our own pack. He’s just showing how cruel he can be. He was merciless before, and now he’s turned into a demon who only wants revenge on me.”
Darius’s eyes flashed. “When a man discovers he has children and his ex–wife ran away with them after their divorce, what do you expect from him?
The question struck me like lightning. Was I wrong? But Tristan had told me he didn’t want any children-
“Darius, 1-
An angry growl cut me off mid–sentence. I turned to find Tristan standing in the doorway, his eyes locked on the scene before him–me bent over his half–dressed Gamma, my hands still on the bandage at his neck.
“What are you doing with my Gamma?” His voice was dangerously quiet.
Darius immediately stood from the bed, head bowed, fear flashing across his features.
“I was treating his wound,” I explained, stepping back.
By what method?” The fury in Tristan’s eyes burned hotter.
I finally understood his misinterpretation. “It’s my blood that can heal his wound. I was just trying to help him.”
Darius nodded quickly. “Alpha, you could let her treat your wounds too. Her blood is the antidote.”
I stared at Darius in confusion. I’d never offered to help Tristan,
“I don’t need her help, Tristan replied coldly. “Let the wounds stay as they are. They’ll remind me of her betrayal forever.”
Before I could respond, Tristan grabbed my arm and pulled me from the room. He didn’t stop until we reached a secluded corner of the hallway,
far from curious ears.
“My touch made you cry earlier, but now you’re so eager to help my Gamma?” His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper.
I gaped at him, stunned by his twisted reasoning. “You’re insane! You tried to humiliate me, treated me like a whore. What right do you have to accuse me of anything?”
Rage flashed in his eyes. “Lysandra, do you come on to every man in the world except me? You really don’t deserve to be a mother.”
Something snapped inside me. “Yes. I hate you. I hate that you keep blaming me after everything you’ve done to hurt me. You know what? I was already pregnant during the rejection ceremony. And what did you do? You watched coldly while I coughed up blood. I almost lost the children. You don’t deserve to be their father! I won’t let them know you as their father! I’ll tell them their father is dead!”
Tristan went completely still. For several heartbeats, he just stared at me, his expression frozen in disbelief. Then something shifted in his eyes -blue ice cracking to reveal something raw and wounded beneath.
His jaw clenched so hard I could see, the muscle twitch along his cheekbone. The silence between us grew unbearable, heavy with the weight of my words.

When he finally moved, it wasn’t with the explosive anger I’d expected. Instead, his features transformed slowly, deliberately -eyebrows drawing together, nostrils flaring, lips pulling back in a snail that revealed the edge of his teeth.
The temperature around us seemed to drop as his breathing became deeper, more controlled–the calm before the storm.
Without warning, his fist shot out with terrifying speed, slamming into the wall beside my head with such force that plaster cracked and rained down on my shoulder.
The impact left a crater in the wall, his knuckles embedded in destroyed drywall. I flinched violently, pressing myself against the opposite wall as my heart hammered against my ribs. His face was now inches from mine, close enough that I could feel his ragged breath against my skin.
“Fine,” he spat. “You have no conditions to negotiate now. Even if you sleep with me a hundred times, it won’t matter.”
He turned and stormed away, leaving me trembling against the wall.
What have I done? The gravity of my impulsive words crashed over me. I shouldn’t have provoked him. But I couldn’t stand his accusations, his attempts to humiliate me. What would he do next? Take my children away?
Panic seized me as I realized my complete powerlessness against Tristan now. I rushed back toward Alaric’s room, desperate to see my family while I still could.
My parents sat huddled on the small sofa in Alaric’s room, faces drawn with worry. The twins had just woken from naps, rubbing sleep from their eyes as they spotted me in the doorway.
“Mommy!” Lyra called, reaching for me.
I embraced them both, noticing the food laid out on the coffee table. “What’s this?”
