Reborn as a Fake Heiress Marrying the Tycoon novel Chapter 1059

Chapter 1059: Still Believed She Kept Her Distance

As Gu Zi’s thoughts drifted, more visitors arrived at Xu Sheng’s hospital room. This time, it was the police, dispatched from the local bureau, currently engaged in a hushed conversation with Xu Sheng’s father.

Gu Zi, from where she stood, could make out their words. The officer leading the exchange, though accustomed to authority, softened his tone considerably in the presence of this man from the capital, speaking with visible deference.

“Sir, if you wish to file a complaint against your wife, we can process it immediately. Just say the word, and we will take care of the matter.”

The man did not respond right away. Instead, his gaze drifted toward the hospital bed where Xu Sheng lay. A moment passed before he finally spoke. “Follow the legal procedures. No need to circumvent the rules.”

Huang Fei had exercised a degree of restraint while still in the capital, but here, in an unfamiliar city where no one knew her past, she had allowed her true nature to run unchecked. Reckless and entitled, she had acted as if the law did not apply to her. After all, with her status, she had likely assumed that even if she got into trouble, she would never truly suffer any consequences.

But perhaps this incident wasn’t entirely unfortunate. If anything, it might serve as a much-needed lesson for her—and for Xu Sheng as well.

If Huang Fei continued down this path of reckless destruction, the family itself would be in shambles. When that day came, he would have no choice but to divorce Huang Fei, severing whatever lingering ties remained.

As for Xu Sheng, if his mother could no longer be there for him, the Xu family would certainly make their own arrangements.

With that, the man reached for the door and ushered the two officers outside. Whatever he intended to discuss next, it was clear he had no intention of letting others overhear.

Gu Zi wasn’t particularly curious about what he planned to say—it was nothing she couldn’t guess. Most likely, he was ensuring that Huang Fei wouldn’t be treated too harshly in custody. After all, when dealing with someone of his status, the police had little choice but to tread carefully.

In the end, there were always those who upheld justice, like Captain He, but there were also those who feared offending the powerful.

The evidence against Huang Fei and the Education Daily was irrefutable; there was no room for appeal. And yet, the police had still sent representatives to ask for his decision. Clearly, they were wary of who he was.

What surprised Gu Zi, however, was that he had chosen not to intervene on Huang Fei’s behalf. Instead, he had allowed the case to proceed to trial. It seemed his patience with his wife had long worn thin, and whatever remained of their marriage was likely nothing more than an empty formality.

Now, Gu Zi could understand why Huang Fei had turned out the way she had—so paranoid, so unhinged. Part of it was undoubtedly her own twisted mindset, but being married to a man like that couldn’t have helped either. A husband who believed all their problems stemmed from his wife? That was bound to breed resentment.

By contrast, Gu Zi’s own husband was practically a saint. The thought made her smirk. At least her man never said things like, “Raising children and running the household are a woman’s responsibility.”
