Chapter 34: The tables have turned
(Elena’s POV)
Sophia was waiting expectantly for the slap to land on my face. Her eyes gleamed with malicious
anticipation.
Suddenly, a man appeared, grabbing Isabella’s wrist and pushing her away forcefully.
“Try touching my sister!”
The man was none other than David Blackthorne. He acted swiftly to defend me from Isabella’s impending
attack.
Isabella, caught off guard by David’s forceful intervention, stumbled and collided with a nearby counter. Her
face twisted with shock and pain.
Sophia, fearing she might be caught in the crossfire, retreated quickly. She watched the scene unfold from a
safe distance.
Isabella’s face flushed red with rage. She pointed at David accusingly.
“How dare you push me! Do you know who I am?” she shrieked. “I’ll use my cousin’s influence to drive the
Blackthorne family out of the Northern Territory!”
Sophia stepped forward, attempting to mediate. “Elena, how could you allow your brother to harm Isabella?”
David retorted immediately. “Are you blind? She was about to hit my sister first!”
Sophia’s face paled at his harsh words. The accusation reminded her of past traumas she preferred to forget.
I intervened quickly, placing a hand on David’s arm. “David, don’t bother with them.”
David turned to me, frustrated and protective. “Elena, you would have been struck if I hadn’t arrived!”
I cautioned him gently. “Remember your promise to control your temper.”
David felt wronged by my response. “Elena, you’re too soft–hearted with these people.”
I countered calmly. “Isabella’s behavior is like a dog’s bark. Not worth responding to in kind.”
Isabella realized I was mocking her. She flew into another rage.
“You dare compare me to a dog?” she screamed.
I reminded her coolly. “Even with the Blackwood family backing, you need Margaret Blackwood’s approval.”
I alluded to the previous incident where Isabella had spoken ill of Sophia. “Remember what happened at the
birthday gathering?”
Isabella’s face went white. She should remember Margaret’s displeasure and Grace’s slap.
Aware of the potential consequences, Isabella retreated without another word.

Watching Isabella leave, I felt troubled by Elena’s ability to invoke Margaret’s name. The effect it had on

Isabella was immediate and powerful.
I wondered if Elena knew Margaret Blackwood personally. The familiarity in her tone suggested a desper
connection.
(Elena’s POV)
Back in my Healing Chamber, I presented David with a silver mechanical watch, it was the birthday gift I had
remembered he wanted.
“Happy birthday, David,” I said softly.
David was touched. I had always prepared birthday gifts for him before my mating to Marcus

I had even internalized the negative comments about him from Patricia and others.
Seeing me cry, David was at a loss. “Elena, don’t cry. I promise to behave and listen to you.”
I smiled through my tears. I placed the watch on his wrist carefully.
“Look how much you’ve grown,” I remarked, admiring how the watch suited him.
(Marcus’s POV)
Isabella stormed into my Alpha’s Command Chamber at the Blackwood Consortium. She interrupted a meeting with foreign businessmen.
Amber Stone reprimanded her immediately. “Miss Isabella, the Alpha is in an important meeting!”
Isabella waited in the reception area until I arrived. Her face was still flushed with anger.
“Marcus, Elena and her brother attacked me at the healing institute!” she complained.
I scolded her firmly. “Isabella, you caused trouble at the institute again.”
