Heaton was sitting in the backseat of his Maybach. He was thrown forward when the car braked abruptly.
Kush apologized quickly, “I’m sorry, boss. Are you okay? The traffic is a bit messed up today. Did you hurt yourself?”
Heaton got a head rush and suddenly, a sharp white light flashed across his eyes.
It felt very delicate. The white spot in his vision enlarged all of a sudden and he was no longer in complete darkness.
“Kush, let’s head to the hospital now!”
Kush was dumbstruck. While starting the car, he asked worriedly, “Boss, did you injure yourself?”
“No, but I think my eyes are working again.”
…
It was in the doctor’s office in the hospital.
The doctor asked Heaton after he was done reading his CT scan, “Mr. Fudd, can you see me clearly now?”
“Yes.”
His sight grew clearer on the way to the hospital. The obstacle that was shrouding his eyes like a black cloth disappeared as light started replacing his vision instead. His vision grew brighter and gradually, he could see everything clearly, just like normal.
“There used to be a blood clot oppressing your optic nerve, but looking at your CT scan right now, the clot has disappeared completely. Congratulations, for regaining your sight, Mr. Fudd!”
…
Heaton stared straight ahead as he walked out of the doctor’s office. He was slightly dazed yet excited.
Kush smiled and said, “Boss, this is very good news. You should call Mrs. Fudd and tell her about this. She must be very happy.”
His eyes gleamed with joy. “Let’s go home and I’ll tell her face-to-face. Come on, let’s go.”
“Alright!”
…
Verian and the driver picked up Little Jelly Bean from school. Nancy was already home as well but Heaton was nowhere to be seen.
Little Jelly Bean was munching on her chips, getting her hands and lips greasy. “Monty, why isn’t daddy home yet? I’m so hungry. I want to have dinner now!”
“Grab some bread in the meantime while waiting for your daddy. Also, you should stop eating the chips. It’s not good to eat chips on an empty stomach. I’ll give daddy a call. He might be caught up in a traffic jam.”
Little Jelly Bean scrunched up her nose and nodded. “Mmhmm! Call him now, hurry up!”
Right when Verian was about to call Heaton, the sound of an engine could be heard coming from the yard and a black Maybach pulled up outside the mansion.
Verian put down the phone and went to the door to welcome Heaton home.
She always had this habit of welcoming him home after he lost his vision.
Verian held Heaton’s arm and as usual, she looked at his charming face and said, “Why are you home so late tonight? Did anything happen on your way back?”
Kush, who was standing aside, answered, “No, everything was fine.”
“Assistant Xavier, you should go home soon. It’s getting late.”
“Yes, Mrs. Fudd.”
Verian turned back to look into Heaton’s face. Seeing the smile at the corner of his lips, her lips subconsciously curled upward into a smile. “Seems like you’re in a good mood today. Did something good happen?”
“You came out to welcome me home, so of course I’m happy.”
The smile on the man’s face deepened.
Verian thought it was weird, “Come on! I’ve been welcoming you home every day ever since you lost your vision, yet I’ve never seen you so happy before.”
Heaton remained silent and waited for her to guess.
Verian thought it was strange. She moved closer to him and stared at him. “Is the new secretary very pretty?”
“That’s impossible. You can’t see her anyway.”
Heaton was speechless, “…”
Without answering, Heaton held her hand and said, “Come on, let’s head inside and have dinner.”
Verian did not notice that he was walking more smoothly than usual. He did not have to grope his way into the house.
“What? Torture you? The baby is supposed to be torturing me, not you.”
He was not the one who was going to give birth to the child.
“I won’t be able to touch you if you’re pregnant.”
Verian was speechless.
She pummeled him violently with her fists.
“You’re the one who got me pregnant. You’re the one who should repent!”
Heaton laughed, “Let’s stop having babies. Two is already tormenting enough.”
“I won’t give birth to any more babies even if someone hires me to do so. I still have a lot of goals to achieve. Who knows I might already become a famous jeweler if it was not for this baby.”
The man was still smiling. “Is being Mrs. Fudd not a success to you?”
“I have to rely on you to become Mrs. Fudd. People will say that I’m Heaton Fudd’s wife, but nobody will say that you’re Verian Mont’s husband.”
“Honey, you’re really an ambitious lady.”
Verian casted a side glance at him, “You have to support me no matter what. You can’t disagree with me. Do you want me to just stay at home for the rest of my life?”
“Well, you’re living off me, so it’s fine.”
As Verian rolled her eyes, she did not notice Heaton staring at her with his bright eyes.
“Mrs. Fudd, what are you thinking?”
Verian stared at the ceiling and said, “I was scrolling through my social media feed today, and came across one of my university classmates who is currently working as a designer in Paris. She took so many photos of her work and they were so pretty. We majored in the same course but she’s a hotshot jeweler in Paris right now. I remembered my lecturer telling me that I was very talented in arts back then…”
She lowered her head, caressed her tummy, and sighed, “Hah… I guess talent means nothing once you’re pregnant.”
Heaton comforted her patiently, “You need intelligence and strength to become someone’s wife as well. It’s no easier than being a top jeweler.”
Verian turned her gaze and stared at him. “You’re surely good at comforting people. In fact, I’m just a pregnant lady who has nothing to do now.”
