Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 244

Verian stared at the smashed cake on the floor. She did not blink and seemed slightly lifeless.

Upon noticing her lack of reaction, Nancy then tossed all the food into the trash.

“I’m telling you, Verian! Heaton doesn’t eat any of these! You’re a jinx! Ever since you entered the Fudd family, bad things just keep happening to Heaton!”

Verian just sat there unmoving, eerily quiet.

Nancy stared intensely at her as she said, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Silently admitting to it now, aren’t you?”

The ruckus in the living room drew John’s attention.

“What are you guys bickering about?”

Nancy was slightly stunned as she said, “Father…”

“Little Jelly Bean and Zaynie are currently drawing in their room. Are you trying to make those kids come down by being so loud? I’m already very frustrated in the recent days so can’t you both just get along?”

Nancy could not let go of her pride as she said while biting her lip, “I’m sorry, father. I was just… I just feel awful for Heaton’s death.”

“Nancy, I know you don’t like Verian but she’s still Heaton’s wife and just like you, a daughter-in-law to our Fudd family. If you guys don’t get along, what would outsiders think of us?”

Nancy lowered her head and did not speak a word.

John called Madam Leah over to clean up the mess before sending Verian upstairs to rest.

Verian’s mood was incredibly calm and in comparison to her unstable mood two days ago, she was far too quiet.

After Madam Leah walked downstairs, she told John in a worried tone, “Master, madam is behaving very unusually today. It would be much better if she cred but she isn’t throwing a fit tonight or talking to anyone either. It’ll hurt her even more if she keeps it bottled up inside her.”

The old man raised his brows and after much thought, he called Kush.

“Assistant Kush, look into which friends Verian was close with and have her best friend come over.”

After half an hour, Kush brought Serene over to the Fudd family home.

When Serene learned of what happened recently, she noticed Verian caressing the man’s coat while leaning against a huge bed the moment she entered.

“Verian?”

Serene rushed over and hugged her.

Verian asked with a faint smile, “Why’d you come over?”

Serene’s heart ached slightly upon seeing Verian in such a state. She said, “Verian, if you feel like crying, you can go on ahead and cry your heart out while hugging me. Don’t keep it bottled up. You still have a child in your belly. What are you going to do with the child if you have depression? If Heaton is still here, he wouldn’t wish to see you like this.”

“Yeah, if Heaton is still here, he would help me when I’m being bullied by Nancy.”

“Someone’s bullying you?”

Verian shook her head and said, “Whenever someone was bullying me back then, Heaton would always able to appear at the most important moment to protect me. However, why didn’t he appear today when Nancy smashed my cake on the floor and tossed all of the food I made for him in the trash? Serene, did Heaton actually leave me here alone?”

“Verian…”

Serene felt something was off with Verian. She was staring at her and had no idea how to comfort her.

“Say, Serene, when a person dies, do they really have a soul?”

Verian leaned against the bed frame, her face pale. She stared lifelessly out the window, feeling depressed and alone.

Serene grabbed onto her hand and said, “Verian, I’m not leaving tonight and am staying here with you. Old Master Fudd said I can come over and keep you company in the coming days. I remembered how I used to share a bed with you during high school and so many years have now gone by…”

Serene intended to distract her focus. However, before she could finish, Verian withdrew her gaze from the window and asked Serene while staring at her, “Say, Serene, would Heaton feel cold lying alone at the bottom of the sea?”

“Verian… Let’s not think about Heaton now, okay?”

“No, he’s alone under the sea and he must feel cold. Serene, I want to meet him at the Bolte Sea Bridge.”

As she spoke, Verian was about to get up but Serene pushed her down as she said, “Verian! Heaton is already dead. He can’t see you nor hear your voice. What are you going to do at the Bolte Sea Bridge?”

“I… I just want to keep him company at the Bolte Sea Bridge. Don’t worry, I won’t dive into the sea. For the child in my belly, I won’t do such a thing.”

Serene hugged Verian immediately and said, “Verian, just cry. Cry your feelings out, okay? Please don’t act like this, okay?”

Verian rested her chin on Serene’s shoulder and said, “I thought after I baked the cake and finished preparing the food, Heaton would come back. He promised me that he would come home earlier…”

“Verian, the most important thing for you right now is to protect Heaton’s child. Your progesterone level is already low. If you keep being depressed like this, it’ll be bad for the child. What if…”

Verian’s eyes trembled and the corner of her eyes turned cold. She said, “What if the child’s gone? I wouldn’t have to worry much anymore.”

Serene was startled. She was terrified by her thoughts.

When a person was in an immensely depressed state, they would lose their will to live. It was not because Verian was not strong, it was all because she was too depressed. So much so, that she did not want to think about anything else.

Wanelle did not expect Old Master Fudd to treat her like that. She said, “Don’t you believe me, Old Master Fudd?”

“It’s up to me to decide if I trust you or not. It has nothing to do with Miss Sheen.”

Wanelle gritted her teeth and stormed out the room in her high heels before running into Verian.

“What are you doing here, Wanelle?”

Wanelle hugged her arm and was not even slightly nervous. She said, “Your heart truly is something now, isn’t it, Verian? You can still live so peacefully in the Fudd family home after murdering Heaton while pretending to be so pitiful? Congratulations, you got revenge on your father’s death.”

Verian raised her brows and said, “What nonsense are you saying?”

“Shouldn’t you know the best if I’m spouting nonsense or not? Didn’t you single-handedly orchestrate Heaton’s accident? Are you not seeking revenge for your father’s death by murdering Heaton?”

“Lies!”

Verian wanted to give her a tight slap but her wrist was caught by Wanelle as she said, “You’re always like this, Verian. Ever since you were little, you’d act so innocently but the truth is, you’re the most evil, schemeful person there is. You killed Heaton, didn’t you?”

Verian clenched her fist and said, “I didn’t! Wanelle, your purpose of coming to the Fudd family home today is to fan the flames now, right?”

Nancy immediately rushed out of her room and furiously said, “Verian Mont! It really was you! Heaton treated you so well and yet, you so heartlessly caused his car crash!”

“Miss Xander, this Verian fellow isn’t a kind-hearted soul. You should warn Old Master Fudd to keep his guard up against her living in the Fudd family home.”

“Verian Mont! You return Heaton to me!”

Nancy gave Verian’s face a huge tight slap and since Verian was unprepared, she was in a daze as she bumped into a pole next to her.

When Old Master Fudd exited the study, he was greeted by this violent scene and exclaimed, “What on Earth are you guys doing!”

When Serene got out after changing, she saw Verian fall and land on her forehead, her face lifelessly pale as she hugged her belly tightly with both arms.

She rushed over and immediately hugged Verian who was on the ground as she said, “How do you feel, Verian?”

Verian’s brows were knitted tightly in extreme agony as she cried out, “My belly hurts… Serene…bring me to the hospital…”

Serene was startled as she said, “Yes, I’ll get you to the hospital right away! Don’t you worry!”

Old Master Fudd exclaimed, “What are you two still dawdling over there for! Hurry up and help her!”
