Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 967

Chapter 967: The person who killed me is one of your brothers.

There were only two types of people who would enter Finn’s ward without knocking: the first was Nina, and the second was someone who had bad intentions for him. Even the nurses would knock before coming in.

Who would have thought there was a third option?

"Penelope," Finn called, smiling the moment he recognized his visitor. "I didn’t expect you to come here so soon."

"You got into an accident right after you met me, asking me to protect Nina," Penny remarked as she walked in, casually sitting down in the chair beside the bed. She took her time, leaning back and resting one leg over the other. "How have you been, Finn Davis?"

"Fine — better, actually. And you?"

"I’m not the one who had an accident and fell into a coma. So, I’m okay."

"Yet."

Penny slowly raised an eyebrow at him. "Yet?" she repeated, then chuckled. "No, never."

"Penelope, I was careful, but look what happened to me."

"Then that means you’re not careful enough, Finn Davis."

Finn pressed his lips together, chuckling with his mouth closed. "You’re right. I might not have been careful enough to avoid falling for such an obvious trick."

"While you were in a coma, do you know how many assassination attempts were made in your life?" she asked, as though it were of little importance. "If you were careful enough, you’d have someone by your side to make sure you don’t die in your sleep."

"I did come to you before I fell into a coma, didn’t I?"

"Are you saying the accident was part of your plan?"

"I can’t say it was part of my plan per se... but somehow, I knew my life was in danger." Finn maintained a friendly smile, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. "I’m just glad I was able to reach out to you before it was too late. So, I guess I wasn’t as careless as you make me out to be?"

Silence quickly followed his remarks as the two of them stared at each other. After a while, the corner of Penny’s lips curled into a satisfied smirk.

"Welcome back from the dead, Finn Davis," she said, her voice full of satisfaction, which made his smile stretch even wider. "I thought you’d be a little different after your accident, but you’re still as sharp as I remember."

"If you’ve spared me a minute of your time to come here, I shouldn’t disappoint you, can I?"

"I’m glad coming here isn’t a waste of my time."

"And I’m honored you feel that way."

"So?" Penny tilted her head to the side. "Which one should we discuss now, Mr. Davis? Was this a good time to catch up on what happened in the past? Or should I first ask why Jonathan is targeting you? Or perhaps the fact that you asked Yugi to protect Nina the moment you woke up?"

She paused, her eyes gleaming with intrigue. "Where should we start?"

"Test me."

"What if I tell you the person who killed me is someone you know?" he asked without a second’s hesitation. "What if the person who killed me, while I was sitting in that same position as you are now, watching poor Nina lying on a hospital bed... is someone you call family?"

"..." Penny didn’t answer, her eyes scanning Finn’s expression for any trace of deception. But she saw none.

He was hinting at the truth.

Penny drew a deep breath, her lips quivering slightly despite her strong front. "Yesterday, Jonathan told me something very interesting."

"He said... that one of my brothers..." she trailed off, forcing a smile as she looked him in the eye. "... killed Renren. Do you think that’s possible?"

"I don’t know if Zoren is dead, but if he is, then sadly, I died before him. So, I can’t provide any details about that," Finn replied calmly, speaking of death as if it were of little concern to him. "But if you’re asking me whether your brothers are capable of doing something so horrendous, I’d say... yes."

Finn paused, letting that sink in. "I’m not saying anyone in particular, Penny. I’m saying all three of them are capable of such a thing. After all, you and I, are probably more aware than ever how our lives have changed in this lifetime. You and I both know that not everyone around us is the same as they were. At least, a few of them aren’t the same anymore."

"That’s clear to me after I woke up yesterday," he continued solemnly. "Back then, you and I... we’re also capable of soiling our hands. If we are capable, then anyone is as well."

"You’re not being clear, Finn Davis."

"The person who killed me is one of your brothers." His answer was quick and unfaltering. "That’s what I’m saying. Do you want to know which one, Penny?"
