Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 700

Chapter 700: Everything

"So, in a way... that guy and what happened to me... is technically your fault?"

A moment of silence enveloped the ward as none of the three—Zoren, Penny, and Hugo—spoke another word. They looked at each other, with Penny mulling over her second brother’s remarks.

"Technically, you shouldn’t be there, you know?" she replied after a minute, and all Hugo could think was, ’There she goes again.’

It was no secret that Penny had a bad habit of saving her own skin before considering others. It wasn’t that she didn’t know how to take accountability, but there were times when she would argue against it.

"Never mind that. It’s not important," Hugo waved dismissively. "What’s important is what I think we all know."

Those people Charles was talking about were still lingering in the shadows.

Zoren and Penny nodded in understanding, letting the silence settle for a moment. They looked at each other before Hugo asked, "What are we going to do with this?"

"This happened—the reason I was in that bar in the first place is because of Allen. I’m helping First Brother investigate what happened to him. He believed that Allen must have found out something, which is why he ended up like that."

"So," Hugo continued, darting his gaze between the two, "what now?" ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Zoren pressed his lips into a thin line, shifting his gaze to Penny as he waited for her decision. He knew this was something Penny should decide on.

’Finn, Allen... are they connected?’ Penny squinted, reminded of Jonathan’s presence during her execution. ’What is his connection to the people who were after Dad?’

"What happened to Finn and—"

"What happened to Finn?" Hugo interjected, his brows furrowed.

Penny snapped her eyes up at Hugo, only to realize he hadn’t heard about what happened to Finn. Nina had only called Penny that night, and before she could tell anyone about what happened, they had already heard about Allen.

"He got into an accident a few hours before this happened to Allen," Zoren explained. "He’s in a coma."

"Well, I guess it serves him, right?" Hugo shrugged. "That guy’s a psycho. He had it coming, considering the people he offended."

Penny studied her second brother before glancing at Zoren. "Second Brother, I think you shouldn’t be so biased against Finn for now."

"And why is that?"

"He might be an ally we wouldn’t have expected."

Hugo raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised by that. "Finn? That guy?"

Just like Charles said, it was an eye for an eye.

Charles caused another man’s daughter’s death, and thus, they couldn’t just forget that those people would want Charles to suffer the same pain of losing a daughter. Hence, even if the situation was different now and those around them were being targeted, Hugo couldn’t disregard this.

It could be a diversion.

"Penny," he called solemnly. "I’m not deciding on this one on my own."

Penny nodded in understanding, appreciating that her second brother was placing himself in a position where he wouldn’t decide under protocol. After all, if this were on the base, Hugo would call all the shots.

"Nothing," she answered after a moment, causing Hugo and Zoren to furrow their brows in confusion. She smiled at them in return, darting her eyes between them. "For now, we do nothing... aside from looking after this guy and those guys."

This time, Zoren couldn’t help but break his silence. "Penny."

"Renren, it’s okay." Penny smiled widely, nodding at him reassuringly. When she faced Hugo, she said, "I know we already considered this happening because Finn, Allen, and this Merrick guy probably knew something or were digging up information they shouldn’t. However, let’s not forget this all happened days before the Pierson Family meeting."

"Pierson Family meeting?" Hugo squinted. "What’s that got to do with this?"

’Everything.’ Penny didn’t answer, keeping her lips sealed with a smile. ’I might not know the connection of those people who are after Dad, but what I do know is that Jonathan Pierson was there the day I died. And that guy is back... with the memories of the past.’
